Teen girl facial hair

Hoping for some advice, my 15 year old teen girl has very pale skin with almost black hair. She has facial hair above her lip and is very self conscious about it looking like a moustache.

I’m the opposite and never have had to deal with facial hair and don’t know how to advise her.

shes mentioned it over the years and I’ve always said it’s not noticeable and downplayed it but now she’s 15 and mentioning it more, I think I need to give proper advice on how to remove it.

So anyone with facial hair, please can you give me some recommendations for her, is removal cream best? She shaves and uses removal cream on legs and arms already, are these ok for the face?

thanks

She's too young for laser removal,it's not for under 18's.

Don't remove the hair until you've fully explored the possibility of their being a cause. In terms of diagnosing - blood tests at a very specific time in the cycle (obviously difficult if it is PCOS because of irregularity) and a scan. Cannot be taking any hormones/contraceptive pill when blood test is done and would need to be fully out the system so again don't go down this route until PCOS is investigated. A scan is also part of diagnosis although there are polycystic ovaries and then there's the syndrome. All her symptoms do point to PCOS and it's useful to know earlier. Insulin resistance can be an issue so knowing before weight gets out of control is very helpful. Many people in years gone by were put on the pill at a young age due to acne/period issues, put on loads of weight, found they had problems conceiving, told to lose weight which they couldn't and eventually were diagnosed with PCOS. Unfortunately not much has changed unless you do the research & push for testing.

@notquitesoyoung thank you, I agree, I’ve already thought that I’ll get her to see a doctor before going down hair removal route.

it’ll be a pain trying to get into the doctors, but hopefully they at least get her a blood test to rule out anything. I always end up feeling like a hypochondriac when I’m at the doctors so don’t tend to go.

Have a look on Amazon for the battery-powered hair removers for about £10 that look like lipsticks. Very easy to use, no chance of cutting or burning your face. Teenage dd nicks mine…

Honestly, a razor in the shower in the morning will be quick, painless and free.
