Am I too old for this dress?

I've bought this dress and I think I might be too old for it. In my head I still think I'm in my twenties 😂but I'm not. I'm in my very late 50s. Should I send it back?

I don't think you're too old for the dress, OP. It's a rather classic/timeless style and would look good on both a 20 year old and a 70 year old. If it looks good on and you feel good wearing it, keep it!

Caveat: I generally find that if I love something, I don't tend to doubt myself/ask for second opinions. But if this is more of a 'will I be judged' question vs 'do I love it' then I guess it's a little different! I guess I'm trying to say that I'd want to be certain I'd actually wear the dress before keeping it.

Obviously the overwhelming answer is that I’m not ‘too old’. I think I worried because I think that a lot of things on that site are probably only suitable for a younger audience shall we say - slip dresses and bra tops. I also know it is over priced for what it is but I’ve fallen for the French branding, shallow person that I am.
@Poppins2016 It is a will I be judged kind of question.

Can’t quite work out if you are an AI woman, OP … It’s such an unreasonable question about a perfectly ordinary dress.

For myself - I’m older than you but wouldn’t choose that dress because I have neither the temperament nor the build for ditsy-French-girl style - rather than because of my age. If you’re looking for alternative sources of French / sort of French clothes, you might have a look at:

Alexandra Golovanoff

La Fetiche

Loulou Studio

They each make utterly superb things.

Unfortunately @MayIDestroyYou I am that unconfident about my clothing choices. part of me thinks I’ve reached the age when I should be buying comfy beige trousers and a baggy floral T shirt but I don’t like that style, although it would be a lot more suited to my daily life.
Ive made some bad clothing choices in the past which I’ve only realised after when I’ve seen the photos! Mainly because I look like a big lump in unfitted things.

The model is not too young for it and you are not too old for it. I'm always baffled by the concept of being too old for something! If the dress makes you happy.. buy it and wear it with red lippy and a big smile 😊

MayIDestroyYou · 29/07/2023 10:36

Oh, so it really is about age? You think older people should accept dull, shapeless clothes?Tell that to my nonagenarian parent. Grin

And buying clothes comes with choice. (In the UK at least.) We’re human - sometimes we make a choice that we later decide was wrong. It’s no reflection on one’s character, or one’s right to continue to choose.

Maddy70 · 29/07/2023 10:40

It's lovely. Why would that be too old for you. ?

GettingStuffed · 29/07/2023 10:51

No way, I'd say you could be too young for it. I am nearly 60 and have a baby doll dress. It's fine on. Don't let being over 40 define you.

I had a look at the website - sweeping generalisation coming up but it didn't scream "French"

Most of it looks lower end of UK high street (I'm not criticising UK high street) but would be a lot, lot cheaper and a fair chance of being cotton, or even linen or a linen viscose mix.

The OP's dress is very pretty and by far the nicest, but it's still pricey for what it is. With that budget I think one could get a better dress.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 29/07/2023 11:32

That's a very classic style - I would have said appropriate for any age or body shape.

LlynTegid · 29/07/2023 16:57

Like it.

doorstopper123 · 29/07/2023 18:23

It's perfectly age appropriate I would say

clowniform · 29/07/2023 18:25

Absolutely not, it's the kind of thing I could imagine on any of the 50somethings I know.

LivingitLarge · 29/07/2023 18:31

It’s lovely and of course you could wear it. I love the model’s style.

TheGoodBanana · 29/07/2023 19:38

That's a really nice dress, if you love it, wear it!

Newusernameaug · 29/07/2023 19:41

It’s gorgeous!!

AnnaNims · 29/07/2023 19:42

I can’t see anything about it that screams ‘young’.

I’d say, it’s fine (if you’re slim).

blahblahblah1654 · 29/07/2023 19:45

You're never too old to wear something lovely. If I had the figure for it I'd wear that dress, it's beautiful

LadyVictoriaSponge · 29/07/2023 20:01

It’s a pleasant any age group dress, I’m surprised you have questioned it OP.

I can’t see anything about it that would prevent someone who is not slim from looking perfectly fine in the dress.

BHRK · 29/07/2023 20:03

It’s lovely, classy and of course you’re not too old

everywhichwaybutthetruth · 29/07/2023 20:03

It looks like a 'granny' dress to me but others must be seeing something I@m not.

borntobequiet · 29/07/2023 20:06

I thought I was going to see pictures of a cutaway mini dress! It’s actually quite staid, you will be fine.

There is no such thing as a 'granny dress' - enough with the ageist shite, please.

It's just an ordinary, pretty enough but not very exciting day dress. Plenty of women, of all ages, have things like it in their wardrobe. Please don't use 'granny' to mean boring or unattractive, which is presumably what you meant to imply.
