Do you expect the more upmarket brands to use natural materials to justify the price point?

Having a browse in in a department store and saw lots of lovely clothes by some more upmarket brands but when I considered the price and the material used like polyester then it was a no. What is the justification?

Or at least to manufacturing the clothes in a place where you know that those manufacturing them are getting a living wage and semi-decent working conditions.

A few years ago I went to an upmarket department store to treat myself to a nice t-shirt. Everything was made in China and I thought come off it, the quality’s good but I know the workers are still getting paid peanuts. I walked out with nothing.

Well, it isn’t just the materials used to make clothing that vary in price. It depends on loads of things - the quality of the design, location of production, amount of fabric, and then overheads - amount spent on advertising, whether they have a website, whether they have lovely-looking shops, etc.

So no, it wouldn’t put me off in itself. There are higher quality versions of synthetic fabrics that have good qualities that some natural fabrics don’t (anti crease, for instance). If you don’t like polyester that’s fine but there are pros and cons to all fabrics.

I think posher brands mostly have better cut pieces. They fit much better. I'm not so sure it's down to materials nowadays though nicer brands had more hightech and newer fabric maybe because of more $$ on R&D. It's a very very subjective opinion though because tbh I usually buy online now as I think going to shops is bad for my MH.

Yes I would. I guess the price of everything is going up so even high street upmarket might not be able to make a profit using cotton/more natural fabrics but I don’t expect polyester.

I always try to buy better brands and make things last but some “fashion” brands seem to be the same quality a L’s chain store but just with a higher price.
Thinking particularly of a Ganni shirt and jacket which I love but aren’t wearing well!

Polyester is not inherently wrong for every garment, just as cotton/linen/wool/silk is not inherently right. So it depends on what it is.

I do expect better quality and fabrics in high end names but price is no guarantee of quality or durability. Me&Em wanted FOUR HUNDRED QUID for a pair of polyester trousers. Nope, not paying that.
