My cheeks are slowly turning into peaches

The mirrors in the office elevator confirmed what I was already fearing. I'm slowly turning into my grandmother. The one who had rosacea red cheeks and a peachy fuzz. I'm nearing my 50s but this is not how I want to spend the next 20 years, so urgent help is needed.
I'm allergic to anything with perfume and lots of ingredients so most creams do not go well with me. Currently using roche posay's rosaliac - but I don't see a lot of improvement. I'm taking extra zinc and L-lysine in the hope that helps. Is there a way to overturn this tragic development?

Japanese blades to shave the peachy fuzz.

For the rosacea, rosehip oil is great but you need to find a brand that suits your skin. Put it on at night in the morning it'll be gone but back at the end of the day again. It won't fix it forever. Some people also swear by azelaic oil but I never tried it so can't comment from experience but so many love it you can safely give it a try too.
Permanent solution: the right antibiotic (I cured my rosacea by accident with one), Soolantra is something a lot of people swear by on MN prescribed by your GP.
Personally I'd see a gynecologist to check it's all ok (particularly with hormones) given your age and later a dermatologist if you can afford it.
For the peach fuzz I want to hear what others say. Right now I'm trying to erradicate and exterminate dark thick hairs on my face with electrolysis, the "peach fuzz" is my next uphill battle!

That sounded like a nice thing cheeks turning into peaches, I was clicking to see skincare used!

Something containing Metronidazole from Dermatica or sin and me, or one of the brands rosex or soolantra. Don't waste your time with the stuff you can buy without a prescription as it doesn't work. I tried everything over 18 months. Few weeks of antibiotic cream and practically gone.

CeraVe wash and moisturiser and Flawless Touch for the downy fluff.

Tell me more about Japanese blades. Would they work for P COS induced facial hair?

affeny · 29/07/2023 00:46

The blades might work for pcos induced hair. For the OP I'd say use with caution as they might trigger the rosacea as they exfoliate the skin too. Though such smooth skin I had afterwards.

OP could use an ordinary facial razor for women instead. Or one of those cheap twisting tools, looks like a long metal spring with handles. I like those.

Are you taking steroids? When I had to up my dose for a chronic condition, I noticed the encroaching fuzz (and dowager's hump). Lowering the dose reversed both.

I heard that the dermaplane face razors take the protective layer off your skin and can lead to infections and ingrown hairs so I stopped.
I recently bought one of those battery operated electric peach fuzz remover. It’s really easy and good- recommend!

TBH I just go over my face with DP's a beard trimmer. No more fuzz, no irritation, takes 20 seconds.

TTCAbroad · 29/07/2023 04:23

Azaelic Acid has worked very well for my rosacea - though it’s probably not as effective as a prescription!

And yes - the at home derma-planing razors are really effective for peach fuzz. Take a look at how to use the properly if you decide to give them a go!

Giving up alcohol helped my rosacea

Which one did you buy?

Ooh thanks so much for all your suggestions! I was off line for a few days and missed the replies at first. I think the common thread is that I need a visit to the dermatologist to get either a cream or anti-biotic prescribed. I'm a bit hesitant to start shaving/trimming - for now the hairs are still soft.

I haven't had any alcohol in years and still had bad rosacea. I suppose it might help if you do drink regularly then eliminate it from your diet. Alcohol can definitely be a trigger for a rosacea flare up for some.
