Can men get away without wearing a tie to a formal wedding these days?

Just wondering what’s happening in the wild. Wearing a full suit and tie thing seems a bit old fashioned to me, now everything has been casualised but maybe that’s a step too far. Does it depend on the area of the country?

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a wedding where the men didn’t wear ties. I thought it was expected? They seem seem to come off after the wedding breakfast though. Maybe if someone is having an outdoor festival type wedding in a field it might be different? I’ve never been to one of those though. Always church or hotel.

Short needs to be button down for it to not look odd without a tie. With un matched trousers and blazer

Button-down collars are seen in US more often than in UK.

@PigletJohn are they, I don't really know I just did the research on how to wear a shirt with no tie for my dh for an upcoming wedding! We got a lovely button down collar shirt from t m lewin and it looks really smart with tailored trousers and a different colour and different texture blazer. The collar doesn't flop down without the support of a tie so it looks right
