OK - just like edgy people or people who have something about them and aren;t like a bloody half used tea bag - people with energy and spark about them! - And good hair!

I have hair like the girl inthe Nivea Ad now as had it all snipped off last week!

MadamePlatypus · 26/02/2008 17:16

That is the the world teenagers live in - probably most dress to be part of a tribe - they will judge others and expect to be judged. Hopefully experience eventually shows that being a little less shallow makes life more interesting.hmm

oops, that was my 1 year old double posting, not me, honest!

RedJools · 26/02/2008 17:17

Oh crikey- glad there are more of you out there like me!! I'm usually off to walk the dogs when I drop dd1 at nursery, and I scuttle in and out, cos yummy-mummies terrify me!! I have no idea, nor do I care, what is in fashion. I do think its a bit funny to see designer clothes with big slogans- imagine paying someone to use you as a billboard!

PurlyQueen · 26/02/2008 17:24

I'd like to think that I wasn't such a shallow person that I would judge someone by the clothes on their back.
However, if they kept on boasting about where they bought their clothes, I would think differently.

Iota · 26/02/2008 17:25

I spend my life in jeans and T shirts or similar.

If i get my new job, I will metamorphosise into a well-groomed be-suited office worker for 2 days a week and revert to casual/scruff on the other 3 days.

People won't know what to think

cestlavie · 26/02/2008 17:30

Of course everyone judges people to some extent on what they're wearing, and not unreasonably.

Unless you shop blindfolded and get dressed blindfolded, every day you're making some sort of statement based on what you're wearing. The person who chooses not to wear tight tops and stilettos makes just as much of a statement as the one who does. Ther person who wears her husband's old plaid shirt on the school run because it's the first thing she pulled out the wardrobe makes just as much of a statement as the person who wears a Dior jacket because it's Friday. They're just different statements.

pedilia · 26/02/2008 17:35

I don't judge others on what they were wear, I rarely notice TBH
After the school run I am normally combining walking the dog with doing the horses as am often in wellies, baseball cap and big coat.

I then get changed once home, I must confess to loving clothes and having far to many!!

franke · 26/02/2008 17:36

scruffy hippy type sounds pretty cool to me. Honestly, teenage girls, they don't know diddly do they? sigh

needmorecoffee · 26/02/2008 17:51

I noticed that there is a trend to add where it came from to something. So its no longer 'blouse' or 'handbacg or 'shoes'
Its 'my armani blouse' 'my prada handbag' pr my 'can't think of desugner shoes name shoes'
Same goes for beauty products.
But I'm guessing its only those who think the amount you spend on them is actually important.
But then I think someone is slightly daft for spending 500 quid on a blouse. Its just something to cover your norks up with!
And shoes! Something to stop your feet getting cold, bits of glass stuck in them!
I wouldn't actually be able to tell the difference bewteen an item of clothing that costs way more than another one. Unless its got neon lights on I probably wouldn't actually notice what someone was wearing at all.

no i HATE them if they look good.

then find otu that they are acutally very nice

needmorecoffee · 26/02/2008 17:52

The statement I make is I hate shopping for clothes and will wear something until it actually falls of me or develops holes in embaressing places.

OP posts:
MadamePlatypus · 26/02/2008 17:55

I am not sure that you can really get a good grasp of somebody's personality just by looking at what they wear at the school gate.

In cestlavie's example, the person wearing their husband's plaid shirt could be changing into Dior when they get home, just like Pedilia is.

DarthVader · 26/02/2008 17:57

I assume people who are badly dressed are LOADED and just don't need to care! Well- dressed people (like me) are trying too hard and insecure (like me)!

MadamePlatypus · 26/02/2008 17:58

The statement I made today was "I have just been to the Minor Injuries Clinic today because I dropped a saucepan lid on my toe. I wouldn't usually wear Birkenstocks in the middle of winter, honest"

pointydog · 26/02/2008 18:13

no I don;t judge their 'worth'. Not quite that shallow. But I make assumptions about their personality which quite often turn out to be wrong.

pointydog · 26/02/2008 18:14

But surely the fashion crime was wearing birkenstocks at all, never mind middle of winter

needmorecoffee · 26/02/2008 18:16

did you have woolly socks on too? I was told this was unacceptable when I toddled out to the shop in sadnals and socks

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 26/02/2008 18:17

their worth, no

their taste, yes

MadamePlatypus · 26/02/2008 18:32

I had woolly stripey socks on. In for a penny, in for a pound I say.

Anyway, I found this picture today, and I think I was bang on trend for the "I just fell overboard, but atleast I found some warm socks to wear look"

Teenage girls can be foul, shallow and judgemental. Hopefully they'll grow out of it. If they "think less of you" because of your clothes() then they are clearly a bit thick.
