Split End Trimmer (Split Ender)?

I have a lot of split ends through the length of my hair, that trimming the ends alone won't deal with. I don't want a huge amount of length taken off my hair unless absolutely necessary.
I have been snipping off split ends myself using the "seek and destroy" method, but this is time consuming and no way I can get all of them.

My hair is coarse and prone to tangling, the split ends make this worse.

I have discovered there's a device called a "Split Ender" that can chop off damaged ends.

I am just wondering if they're actually any good or just too good to be true?

Amazon reviews are mixed, either glowing or scathing. So that's not much help!

Any Mumsnetters tried one of these devices?

I'm curious too

Like the previous PP, I too am curious.

I'm pretty sure these things work by cutting off the ends of hairs whether they are split or not. Our hairs are not all the same length. New hairs are growing all the time and old ones are falling out. As new hairs grow every day, there are hairs of every length on your head. When you twist your hair, the ends stick out. These are not all split ends. They are just hairs. The trimmer trims them. If you use it a lot you just end up with things out hair

That's what worries me @okiedokie1 - I know it will probably trim some healthy ends too, which doesn't bother me much, but over time I wonder if this will become an issue. I guess I will be able to physically see how much it removes but requires me to actually buy one and see...

Currently I can twist my hair into sections and trim off the ends of the hairs that stick out, but it's not very effective, plenty of split ends get missed. Time consuming too!

Il guessing like me you have extremely long hair if you're looking at these and using seek and destroy method? I seek and destroy once a month or so. Hair in small plaits. Oil hair ends daily as preventative.

I've read horror stories about these in the hair groups and they do just indiscriminately cut off the ends. Some have reported general thinning, also.

Thanks @silkythefairytree - I think I'm going to leave it for the time being, as I can't risk thinning my hair out further. I've had 2" off my hair which has helped a bit. It's not particularly long (waist length before I had a trim) but it's very course/brittle and prone to tangling.

I might try plaiting it to help with split end searching!

Your post has also prompted me to get some oils to use on my hair, as I had gotten out of the habit. :-)
