100% mineral facial spf

have come to the conclusion that my beloved Nivea Anti Shine SPF50 may actually be the reason why I now have melasma on my face. I went from using nothing and not having it to using it daily for 18 months and now I do. Having googled it appears that chemical sunscreen can do this and I should be using mineral only.

I have the Altruist facial fluid which I think is mineral but it makes me really shiny and greasy looking. I need recommendations for a 100% mineral facial sunscreen that won’t make me look like an oils slick. I don’t have greasy skin but everything just oils me up and looks awful.

Your help would be much appreciated.

If you take a look at Angie on Hot and Flashy on YT - she regularly talks about mineral sunscreen and rates them. Some of them are tricky to buy here (she is american). I think LRP Anthelios is 100% mineral.

Thank you I’ll take a look. It’s really not something I’d ever given any thought to at all and was just chuffed that I’d finally found a sunscreen I was happy with. I’ve tried so many but almost all chemical and none anywhere near as good.

I have bought the Altruist Face Fluid for my holiday next week. Not used it yet - bit worried now! May just stick with my hat!

NotLovingWFH · 24/07/2023 16:26

Try it @BrandNewBicep it’s the number one on Amazon so might just be me but I really don’t get on with it and nothing I do reduces the shine. It doesn’t make me break out at least.

La Roche Possay Anthelios is 100% mineral.

I've had melasma (still do but it's improved hugely since starting a Dermatica subscription 3 months ago). I've used Anthelios throughout my treatment.

waterlego · 25/07/2023 11:36

I rate Anthelios too. It is the only SPF that doesn’t sting my eyes! (I am usually quite active when I’m outdoors and often sweating. Nothing worse than sweating stingy SPF into your eyes!)

pharmachameleon · 25/07/2023 12:03

I'm watching to see how if any other recommendations come up. LRP Anthelios stings my eyes and feels really chalky so I stopped using it. I'm currently using the Hada Labo Tokyo facial sunscreen and really like it but suspect it's a chemical SPF.

Teaxberspet · 25/07/2023 12:10

Tropic sun day all the way!

Chorizopizza · 25/07/2023 12:17

LRP Anthelios is definitely not 100% mineral, not sure if a previous formula was different. The current one uses both mineral and chemical.

CointreauVersial · 25/07/2023 12:52

I use Tropic Skin Shade.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 25/07/2023 12:56

I've tried the REN mattifying one for the first time this year and I love it. It's pricy but if you shop around you won't need to pay the rrp.

Farmageddon · 25/07/2023 13:02

I tried the Colorscience one which is completely mineral, and it was far too thick and gloopy - basically like wearing a layer of thick make up. And it stained my clothes really badly.

Apparently the Elta MD one is really good, but expensive and hard to get outside the US.

Daydreamings · 25/07/2023 13:48

SkinCeuticals I use this . It's by far the best product I've used. It gives a lovely glow to my skin and never irritates. The texture is lovely and light, make-up goes on beautifully afterwards. It also gives a nice glow to the skin when worn alone. I use it everyday.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 25/07/2023 14:19

I should add, I didn't have high hopes as I've used so many thick white mineral creams in the past, but it really is mattifying.

I'm sure it's lovely but it's £45 for 50ml 😱and considering how much sunscreen we're supposed to use to get proper coverage, it's not going to last very long.

Daydreamings · 25/07/2023 15:28

Fair enough @Farmageddon , I do go through quite a few bottles. I hope you find something suitable.

GrimDamnFanjo · 25/07/2023 15:56

A few people have mentioned Tropic. One of their sunscreens failed the independent tests by Which recently. I wouldn't use it after reading their review.

iwantawisteriathisyear · 25/07/2023 16:09

I can only use mineral sunscreen as allergic to others. I use Heliocare 360 on my face. A bit gloopy initially but quickly sinks in. Ok under make up and wore it for 2 weeks in Greece. All fine. Available on Amazon

Beauty Pie have just launched a 100% mineral one. I haven't tried it but their stuff is always bang on and I've tried quite a lot over the last few years.

Ive been using the CeraVe Moisturising Mineral Sunscreen Face Sheer Tint SPF 30 for my every day one, it’s been great so far. I haven’t found one that is SPF50 that doesn't leave a white cast yet.

It isn't unless you buy the specific mineral product

picturethispatsy · 26/07/2023 00:36

REN have a mineral facial spf cream.

carpethediempeople · 26/07/2023 00:52

I use ren. It's the yellow tube. I have a white cast but have to suck it up as am olive skinned. There are so few 100% mineral ones in the UK. The ren is 22% zinc, you're not going to tan or get pigmentation through that.

Anthrliod is deffo not mineral. I'd have stuck with it if it were.
