What are your 15 year old girls wearing

Just that really. My dd is growing out of her clothes. She always makes some odd fashion choices - for instance she has got a pair of dm's that she wears with jeans that basically look like she is wearing her school shoes!!

I bought her some stuff from superdry for the holidays but she needs some more clothes and shoes. Are flip flops totally out now?

Shes slim, (size 8) but curvy and tall. Flat stomach that she doesn't mind showing.

DD is nearly 16, she's into platform DM's with tiny denim skirts. Converse with denim shorts or wide leg jeans. Crop t-shirts and band t-shirts, she hates any kind of branded sportswear.

She spends a lot of time in dancewear as she does 9 classes a week!

DumpedByText · 24/07/2023 21:27

Sorry meant to say most clothes are from H&M, Primark or Vinted, she loves Vinted!

ColouringPencils · 24/07/2023 21:45

Very conscious of waste and concerned about fast fashion. Likes a vintage kind of look, not dissimilar to how I dressed in the 90s - but she doesn't know that! Vest tops in a variety of colours that may show tummy with a loose cotton shirt slung over, loose linen or cargo trousers or boyfriend jeans. Shirt might have a vintage pattern or be her dad's. No labels (except maybe trainers). Minimal make-up, just eye shadow and lip balm. Has only worn heels once for her prom. Pretty simple clothing really.

BonjourCrisette · 24/07/2023 21:54

Wide or flared jeans never skinnies or leggings, crop tops and vest tops, Converse, DMs, flip flops, little mini tea dress type things, long tea dress type things, no medium length or knee length skirts ever, cropped hoodies or huge hoodies (not the normal ones oldies like me wear), baggy tracksuit bottoms (ideally not cuffed at the ankle), knee length shorts in a cargo style.

Shops she loves are Hollister, Urban Outfitters, vintage/charity shops, & Other Stories, Anthropologie.

Sandals, I regret to inform you, are beyond the pale but flip flops are definitely acceptable.

No, she does buy things for herself, but she is not great with fashion and just buys weird stuff, - not what i see others wearing or she will put it together strangely. She has a really nice dress from urban outfitters for example but will wear it with normal socks (not trainer socks) and trainers or dm's and it just looks awful. Its mainly the footwear I think. She is not terribly interested. She has adhd so will wear skimpy clothes when its cold and be trussed up in a hoody when its hot.

I am making her sound a bit weird, she actually has a lovely figure and is very pretty so I just want to help her out to make her fit in a bit better.

Superdry i bought her a bikini and some very short beach dresses. Hoards of teenagers in our local branch.....

Also bought some bits at h&m and new look but that's all a bit dubious in my view - ok for basics- and loads of middle aged women in there!!

I found some really nice stuff in pull and bear but she didn't like. I just want to be able to point her in the right direction when we go shopping.

My DD is nearly 17 and I haven't bought her stuff without her there since early teens. You need to let her find her own way, you're inflicting your ideas onto her about what looks good which will affect her self esteem. My DD sources and buys all her own clothes as do her friends. Mainly trackies, crop tops, cargos, cropped hoodies, Nike high tops and sliders. Occasionally leggings. She might wear the odd sports branded short skirt or dress.

Neither she nor any of her friends would be seen dead in superdry. That's for middle aged people like me apparently!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/07/2023 22:01

Leave her alone. She's 15 she's not a doll.

Lemieux7 · 24/07/2023 22:03

My daughter is 14 and a size 4/6 - she wears Hollister, River Island and Abercrombie & Fitch - that type of thing.

HappiDaze · 25/07/2023 01:20

I hear you OP

If I left clothes and trainer shopping to my DS he wouldn't have a clue in the slightest. He's also strangely specific with what he doesn't like though. Bloody annoying really. But we keep it plain and simple so he doesn't look out of place.

DD 16 who very much does have a clue shops in places like Bershka (have a great selection this season apparently) Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters (not as good this season as usual apparently) Primark, vintage / second hand shops, Shein, Pull & Bear. I can't remember where else.

Superdry isn't cool for teen's apparently
DD doesn't like Zara or New Look, has a couple of things from H&M

DD also wears normal socks with trainers so it must be a thing. She wears various chunky Jordan trainers amongst other Nikes though so it kind of balances out. I refuse to buy her any more trainers for a while.

HappiDaze · 25/07/2023 01:28

They dress like 'homeless people' during the day in baggy joggers etc (DDs words not mine) when hanging out at each others homes, in more presentable day wear if out with me or going into town with each other and at night in skimpy tight outfits with trainers Confused

They have a set sort of uniform depending on the occasion

mommacots · 25/07/2023 01:36

My DD (16) lives in:

Urban Outfitters Josie tops and similar, but you can buy a cheaper version in Primark. Or other crop tops, halter neck tops, butterfly tops and the like. Big zip up hoodies on top.

Paired with flared jeans and cargo pants.

She also has some large oversized t shirts which she wears with little denim shorts.

Shoes are either trainers, sliders or crocs.

Fave shops are Urban, Hollister, Bershka, H&M, Primark

whatthinkyou · 25/07/2023 01:57

Mine shops in Urban Outfitters. She tends to wear:

Cargo pants
Crop tops
Baggy hoodies
Nike trainers
Crocs

Teenagers in our City don't usually wear Suoerdry

SheWontSheCantShesLeft · 25/07/2023 02:04

Trainer socks/no show socks are incredibly uncool. It’s crew socks all the way.

Likewise flip flops - crocs for the win every time.

I’d just let her wear what she wants to be honest.

blacknredsweeties · 25/07/2023 10:34

Anything goes at the minute.

My kids have 60s 70s 80s 90s plus modern and sporty. It's a really great time to wear what you want.

Are their many goths about these days?

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 25/07/2023 11:45

Mine is younger but takes her 'fashion' cues from her big cousins 🙄. She lives in baggy tshirts and cycling shorts at the mo. So easy to buy for. For her birthday, got her a few old film & tv show/band tshirts from Truffle Shuffle and she wears them on rotation. Also full socks with footwear is a thing! Mine wears a pair of 3 quid crocs from primark all day every day with white sport socks, also primark. She always looks very comfortable.

PinkyU · 25/07/2023 12:15

@bunchofboys It sounds like your dd is very much in style, what is it you would prefer to see her wear?

My 16 year old is goth/emo. She tells me emo is coming back as a retro look as part of the Y2K aesthetic. She also likes the music like siouxsie and the banshees!

I'm too young too have been a goth and too old to have been an emo (90s teen, it was all grunge and brit pop) so not really my scene and I'm not familiar with the music.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 25/07/2023 19:53

Mainly Dickies with crop tops. She gets super cheap Nikes from the outlet shop too.
