Do you have a rook piercing?

Just that. I'm thinking of getting one. I have recently rediscovered piercing and am getting fascinated! Currently have three lobes, helix in left ear and a nostril piercing.

How painful is the rook? What jewellery do you have?

Bumping for the morning 😁

I do! It's really cute and I like it because it's kinda hidden in the ear.

I have a bar in mine which is the same bar it was pierced with LOL. I suppose I should get something nicer to go in it!

I had it done on the day of the Olympic opening ceremony in Oxford Circus Topshop. I asked the guy if it hurt and he looked at me and was like - well.... yeah.

It really wasn't that bad and if you've had helix you'll be fine. I also didn't have any trouble with it, like cartilage displacement or infection etc. Maybe because it's quite protected in their?

Do it! Wink

I don’t have my rook pierced but I do have a daith pierced which is very similar (just one ear fold down). It was definitely one of the more painful piercings. I would say it was an 8/9 on the pain scale (nostril was a 4 for no to give you an idea). I imagine the rook to be similar because it’s a thick piece of cartilage too. Maybe slightly less.

I heal pretty fast and generally have no issue with things like bumps but it did take a full 6 months before it was good change out the jewellery. I wear a gold oval shaped clicker with a lotus style design. I know people wear this type of jewellery in rooks too but personally I would go for a jewelled curved bar in a rook rather than a hoop.

I have mine done. Have a bar with diamond like ends. Hurt getting it done, but no issues since. Doesn't get caught on hair or clothes so healing was a dream compared to other piercings.

Thanks 🙂I love the look of the daith too but I need to be able to wear earbuds so thought a rook would suit me better. I guess I'm not too worried about the pain as it's quick.

I love this for jewellery but I doubt I could find somewhere that would pierce with it

I have it (as well as several in lobes, helix and forward helix) and found that the helix hurt more. I was expecting the rook pain to be bad, but it wasn't - just some pressure. Helix hurt loads more and took more time to heal. Rook is cool as it's tucked in your ear, so protected and you can sleep on it after a few weeks, no issues

Olivia199 · 22/07/2023 11:35

@MintIcecreams - I've got mine done and now wear a bar similar to your photo. I've had the odd hoop in it too. Really easy to change and I love mine.
Definitely hurt at the time but it was like any piercing... an "OUCH" and then done. Absolutely no issues following on and stopped hurting once it was in!

MintIcecreams · 22/07/2023 11:47

You have all convinced me 😁There is a great piercer near my so I'm going to book in.

I just hope I don't get awful bumps. My nose has one after I accidentally ripped out the stud and I can't get it to go away.

Olivia199 · 22/07/2023 12:36

Yay!! Good luck! Ouch on the nose front though. The good thing with this is that it's fairly concealed.

Catchasingmewithspiders · 22/07/2023 12:48

Ive had a rook and a helix done and the rook hurt less and was far easier to heal than the helix because it gets caught on stuff less

HelloChompy · 22/07/2023 13:26

I've had a lot of piercings! Rook wasn't particularly painful, a but of a sting and quickly over. As others have said, because it is protected you are less likely to catch it afterwards.

I wear a curved bar with coloured opal ends. You can get fancy jewellery for fresh piercings if you pick a good studio. See if you have a association of professional piercers studio near you and you will be spoilt for choice!

Looks fab! I got mine 3 weeks ago and I love it 🥰

MintIcecreams · 15/08/2023 15:06

Oh lovely! How's the healing going?

OP posts:
Thegoldgrind · 15/08/2023 15:29

It's been fine! First day was throbbing, 2nd and 3rd days were a bit pinchy but since then no issues!
