I have recently lost my wedding ring ( out on my bike!! Tried to find it but no luck!). and I’d love to replace it with the gold from my and my husbands mums wedding rings. I also have a diamond engagement ring that needs altering and although I’ve looked at designs online l just wondered if anyone had actually done this?
There is a jewellers nearby that does re-design jewellery but I mist admit his work is very “out there!” Possibly a bit too much for me.
l did think about going to Birmingham to the jewellery capital and see if l can find a jewellers and get some ideas.

So, l was wondering if anyone has actually done this and has any advice or ideas of what to do next..Here’s hoping…thanks x

I used my Nana's wedding ring and made some alterations to it. I did find it tricky to find someone who could do what I wanted (which was relatively simple - made smaller, narrower band and re-engraved in a similar design to the original, which had basically worn away) and also found that different people seemed to tell me different things about what was possible and how it would be done. I was happy with how it turned out though, and it was less expensive than I thought. I'd recommend speaking to a few different people, asking lots of questions and only going ahead when you're fully confident that you'll get what you're hoping for.

l did think about going to Birmingham to the jewellery capital (you mean Jewellery Quarter?) and see if l can find a jewellers and get some ideas.
I had my engagement and wedding rings designed in the JQ, although it was years ago. Still lots of designers out there. See here

Thankyou so much for the advice. I think if l went ahead without proper research and as you say getting lots of advice l could possibly not like the rings produced and that would be such a shame. I want to love wearing the rings and feel close to my mum again. She loved her jewellery. Her trilogy ring is lovely but definitely needs rebuilding up as l couldn’t wear it with fear of it breaking. Thinking l might just build it up in a modern design, but essentially the same…if that makes sense.

Slightly different but I had my grandmother’s gold and diamond trilogy ring (it was a very old fashioned setting but the diamonds were lovely) made into 3 x diamond pendant necklaces (I bought the chains, obviously),one for me and the others for my children. We wear them every day and it feels like the ring,(which I’d never worn as it wasn’t my style), is now a special connection. I went to a couple of local jewellers and chose the one with the most ‘can-do’ attitude, who took the time to understand what I wanted in terms of the setting and made me feel confident they could fulfil it. They came out exactly as I’d hoped.
I second others who’ve said ask around until you feel confident in a particular jeweller.

I follow Jana Reinhardt on insta and she redesigns Jewellery. I would suggest looking on ig for inspiration and potential jewellers.

I re-designed mine. It wasn’t cheap. It isn’t always possible to simply re-use the gold, etc. It can be cheaper to start from scratch, but a reputable jeweller will tell you.
My Diamond was a solitaire and it was pretty, but nothing sat comfortably next to it.
Now it’s in a much more secure (and sparkly) setting and can comfortably sit next to my wedding ring. (Hands are ever so wrinkly now in comparison)
