I wish I were either more stylish than I actually am, or could make peace with my CBeebies presenter aesthetic.

How I think I would like to dress: Black, complicated, arty dresses, simple statement jewelry, severe glasses, very short hair, expensive boots.

Me in real life: Oooh look, YELLOW shoes!! And these ones have DAISIES on them! And a cardigan with novelty buttons! And ANOTHER denim skirt because this one has RAINBOW stitching! Shall I get the cat glasses or the blue and green flowery ones? Ha! This bag looks like a hotdog!

I'm the same with house stuff. I logged on to look at cut glass crystal wine glasses (because I want to be a grown-up with grown-up things) but found myself adding the KMart 2-tone pink and yellow wine glasses to my basket...

You sound lovely OP, and please don't change your style. We need more fun in this world, not black!

What3words · 22/07/2023 23:43

I would SO love to wear popsy!

PEARLJAM123 · 23/07/2023 08:59

But if that is your style, then you are stylish. Who says we all have to like the same things?

Florabundance · 23/07/2023 11:44

Go with how you feel !
You sound like someone I'd really like to know 🤣

Crispynoodle · 23/07/2023 12:37

I do both! Look like a telly tubby on one day (yellow Lucy and yak dungys) and quite smart the next (cream linen midi skirt, cream biba blouse with a pink Chanel style blazer) In other words I wear whatever I like!

Stylish is objective but style is subjective. Dress how you want to, find your joy! Life would be so miserable if we all stuck to monochrome with accents of beige. If you really want to be more stylish get some assistance as to what suits you and what’s appropriate for your job etc within your preferences. Obviously that needs to be cost appropriate. There are apps (I use style dna which is about £30 per year)or you can book a session with a stylist. A good stylist will always bring out the best in you, they won’t make you give up colour. Embrace your likes and your personality! Who cares if you look like you present CBeebies! My mum wanted to buy a jumper for my brother which was very CBeebies presenter, don’t get me wrong it was a lovely jumper but my brother has a scruffy, undone sort of look, he would look like a hungover and inappropriate children’s presenter in any sort of bright colours 😅 you will look great dressing for your type. Have fun with colour and dress for yourself, who cares if anyone else likes it?!

Yogachick · 23/07/2023 20:30

But where did you get the yellow shoes with daisies on OP?And your flying pigs dress and bumble bee boots@Littlejacksmummy ?
I am in the same boat,I admire cool chic tremendously but love the bright joy of say, Lucy and Yak. The above outfits fill me with envy as I too want daisy shoes, bumble bee boots and flying pig dress

Littlejacksmummy · 23/07/2023 20:34

@yogachick boots are heavenly feet and dress is popsy, although it's out of stock just now. I am currently in the middle of an irregular choice shoe obsession on vinted 🤣

Yogachick · 23/07/2023 20:39

I should have known @Littlejacksmummy all mentioned I have lusted over designs from. How is Heavenly Feet sizing?

Littlejacksmummy · 23/07/2023 20:42

I'm a fat footed 7 and they fit perfectly. I wonder about going up to an 8 sometimes but heavenly feet are spot on my usual 7. And so so comfy.

Littlejacksmummy · 23/07/2023 20:43

@mrstreacle give yourself a round of applause! 🤣 Fellow shopping enthusiast 🤣

Amiable · 23/07/2023 20:49

Life is too short for dull - wear the rainbows and daisies and put a smile on your face (and everyone else too!)

I pride myself on not owning anything plain black, not even shoes. I smile whenever I look in my wardrobe, the colours and patterns brighten my day.

I only starting dressing like this during Covid, but have received more compliments in the last 3 years than in the previous 50!

unfor · 23/07/2023 20:52

Your style sounds great, OP, have a watch of Mike Leigh's Happy Go Lucky if you haven't seen it already.

Littlejacksmummy · 23/07/2023 20:53

Had to add this 🤣

I wish I were either more stylish than I actually am, or could make peace with my CBeebies presenter aesthetic.
Yogachick · 24/07/2023 05:56

@Littlejacksmummy 😍😍😍😍😍😍

FindingMeno · 24/07/2023 06:15

I think you can be one thing one day, and another the next.
Fashion is meant to be there to experiment with.

Ladyofthelake53 · 24/07/2023 06:16

I am trying to.introduce more colour into my wardrobe, just bought an emerald green coat for winter but i will wear black under it....

iamthattree · 24/07/2023 08:36

@Divebar2021 is the essential Antwerp stuff for the tall/slender? I love some of the shirts but I am a short 16 so am guessing not for me?

I am another colour lover - try to do a bit of tonal dressing, colour in coats etc. it helps that neutrals don't really suit me much (I wear navy on the bottom rather than black). I did a colour analysis day a number of years ago now and came out as a paintbox spring, ie the most colourful of all the types, full on cbebbies.

When I want to look grown up I do 2 colours and a splash which I was taught in that day so maybe navy trousers, tan shoes/belt and turquoise shirt. Basically don't wear too many colours in one go.

When I am not trying to look smart for work I wear heaps of colour - full on dopamine dressing. I have a dress for my holiday which is basically multi colour stripes in red orange and pink and it makes me SO HAPPY!

Scampi24 · 26/07/2023 07:54

I'd say wear what you love anyway but you can do it now safe in the knowledge that you are bang on trend... Dopamine dressing!

I not only have the dress sense of a CBeebies presenter but also the personality so I leaned into it and got into teaching KS1 😄

May be investing in some of the key pieces mentioned for my very non-capsule wardrobe ....

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/07/2023 18:12

I'm off out tonight and I'm embracing colour - bottle-green dress, bright red coat. Shoes in a more muted red, bag in a lighter green.

I probably look like some traffic lights mated, but I feel good! 😆

PrudenceDictates · 26/07/2023 22:51

I think your style sounds fab, OP!
I love colour and silly prints, too... My favourite dress has dinosaurs on it.
