Will more bleach ruin my hair ?(pic included )

I'm naturally dark
As I'm approaching 40 my greys are growing at super speed
I have been getting highlights in.

How do I combat the warm tones?
Will I need a t section and toner?
Do I get backcombed highlights and get my roots dark?
What do you think is the best?
I only want to get a full head every year and the rest of the time (2-3 months ) just a t section
Also does my hair look quite warm?

Your hair is the most beautiful coppery rose gold strawberry shade. I have deep hair envy! To get rid of warmth, you need to tone with something but I'm not sure what. Usually it's purple for blondes and blue for brunettes but I'm not sure either of them is right for your colour. Go for a consultation with an extremely good and well recommended colourist....not just someone average. Have you got a pic of the colour you want?

NutellaEllaElla · 19/07/2023 13:59

It's a lovely colour, not sure what you want but yes usually a purple shampoo for blondes to remove the warmth. Consult with a colourist though

LadyPoison · 19/07/2023 14:01

What is your skin tone? If it's warm then your hair is probably perfect!.

I had mine that colour for years, I've just gone much blonder with heavy highlights for a change (and to hide the grey regrowth better).

ohaaahh · 19/07/2023 14:06

I love this colour
My greys are driving me mad
Like I say I used to get the roots brown and more of a balayage but the greys were appearing thick and fast

Yes you'd need bleach to achieve that. I say this all the time but your average colourist would struggle to achieve this. You need someone exceptional to blend it perfectly and not just get visible highlights. If you're in the north west, I know someone but it's not cheap! You cant achieve this at home, so it's a hairdresser job I'm afraid.

ohaaahh · 19/07/2023 14:23

Oh I'm the north east unfortunately
I'm in Newcastle
It's so hard to find a decent colourist these days
I've struggled all my life

Yep, exceptional colourist are impossible to find. So many can do a good highlight but to get the colour you want, very few can do it and it takes hundreds of pounds!! My guy in the NW does virtual consultations, so u could do that. He's lovely as well.

Ooh whereabouts in the NW @omgsally ? If it's anywhere near Manchester I'm looking for a good colourist after my local hairdresser bleached my hair to buggery.

Do you think going lighter is the best way to tackle the greys rather than keeping dark ?

Try a rinsage using blue black hair dye and shampoo.

Tutorials on YouTube. It's easy.

OwlBeGone · 19/07/2023 17:04

This is almost identical to my hair colour and I know exactly what you mean about the greys. Having darker roots as a balayage just accentuated it but bleach dried it out. I don't know the answer that won't involve apparently mythical colourists and 100s of pounds. I'm going to try lighter roots and a quarter head t-section highlights next 😫

OwlBeGone · 19/07/2023 17:06

Also, yes I would describe your hair as having warm tones, like mine. But keeping tones cool when you're naturally warm seems impossible and/or time consuming and expensive.

Frequency · 19/07/2023 17:09

My mum has a similar colouring to yours. I usually do T-section highlights to blend in the greys. She's allergic to colour so we do not tone with anything. Her allergy is that severe she is allergic to purple shampoo. I use a very high-quality bleach and Olaplex that takes her to a clean level 9 without toner.

She notices the grey hairs more than anyone else. To everyone else, they just look like more highlights. I'd bet my last penny yours are the same and no-one else can notice them. If you love the colour have now then keep it. That ashy blonde is very high maintenance.

Bargoed · 19/07/2023 17:17

You obviously throw warm - purple shampoo would cool a little but you really need more lift to get it really cool.
Don't get darker roots as will just add a line of regrowth
Having cool toned low lights plus a cool highlift with a 2/1 ratio is a great way to blend grey regrowth a full head with t sections would be a great way to maintain

Where do you go at the minute?

He was in Manchester but he's just moved to knutsford.
