What do we think of this dress? Size 18

Thoughts on this dress from Albaray? I'm 5'3 and a size 18. It's cotton and the skirt is lined.

It's to wear to a kids birthday party that my very Conservative in-laws will be at. So it needs to be quite covered up. I can tie the neck shut so it ends up being high neck (and wear it open for other occasions).

Looks good, OP, but I can’t believe you’re altering what you would wear to suit your ILs’ notion of appropriate female dress (or indeed that anyone, however conservative, would have an issue with that neckline as it is! I have fairly conservative-dressing Muslim colleagues who wouldn’t bat an eyelid at that.)

I'm struggling to see how anyone "conservative" in any rational meaning of the word could have a problem with that dress and neckline, even without the neckline being tied up. Navigating the world or even just watching female news presenters must cause conniptions.

GingerEden · 19/07/2023 08:57

Flatters in the right places and looks good on you, OP!

An Albaray cotton dress of mine is really great quality. Washes well too.

AlligatorPsychopath · 19/07/2023 08:58

It's very nice and looks good on you. And it looks perfectly conservative to me, but it's your life and they're your boobs.

mrsm43s · 19/07/2023 09:04

You look nothing like a size 18. Bearing in mind your height, I'd have said a 12-14. So on that basis, I'd say that dress is extremely flattering. It's absolutely gorgeous and completely appropriate for a child's party.

doglover90 · 19/07/2023 09:12

It looks beautiful on you!

NatashaDancing · 19/07/2023 09:15

It's a very nice dress. I'm struggling to see any social occasions, shiort of a black tie ball where it couldn't be worn.

Really lovely! If anything I’d have maybe tried a 16 too, as it looks a little bit on the big side on the top, but that’s also the style - I really like it

Yes I'd try smaller too

sunglassesonthetable · 19/07/2023 09:35

Love it. Very flattering shape. You look lovely.
And very nice dress.

Dermadirj · 19/07/2023 09:39

Thanks everyone! It's a keeper 😊

Lovely dress! Really suits you. I agree you could probably stand to go down a size, but being the same size as you I know sometimes a smaller size might fit, but pulls in odd places and I'm more comfortable with a looser fit.

headcheffer · 19/07/2023 09:54

Looks lovely OP!

ymemanresu · 19/07/2023 10:26

Very nice, suits you. Just looked on their website, they have nice dresses

eatdrinkandbemerry · 19/07/2023 10:32

I'm about the same proportions and I'd wear it x

EnjoythemoneyJane · 19/07/2023 10:42

You really don’t look an 18 at all - and by that I don’t mean size 18 is anything but lovely, just by pics I’d have said size 14 absolute tops. Def a keeper - colour & cut are great on you - but buy it because you love it and it looks good, not because you can Amish yourself up in it for the sake of your fkn ILs. Have fun at the party.

GettingStuffed · 19/07/2023 12:42

I've just made a thread abou flattering dresses and this perfectly illustrates my point.
You look great.

Whataretheodds · 19/07/2023 12:56

Looks lovely on you OP and you don't need to justify why you're considering your parents views in making this choice.

Crikeyalmighty · 19/07/2023 12:58

I'm an 18 and it looks fab!!

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 19/07/2023 13:05

Why do people need to keep telling the OP “she doesn’t look like an 18” as if it’s something shameful? So bloody misogynistic.

Asiama · 19/07/2023 13:10

You look lovely OP 😊 and that neckline is absolutely fine! I get what you mean though, my mother would have had a fit at how revealing it is and I would have carried on anyway.

Really? Or just that a different size could be a better fit?

Oh and you didn't mention the dress?

It's like you're just on patrol.

FallenSkies · 19/07/2023 14:18

You look gorgeous in that dress OP.

I have been looking for cotton dresses, please can I ask where it is from?

Dermadirj · 19/07/2023 14:26

@Mutabiliss yep you've put it really well. I tried the dress on again after the comments about going down a dress size, but I think it might get tight in a lot of places although it would technically still fit. I like the floatyness of it as it is so I think I'll just keep it.
