Rosacea summer skin care

If you have rosacea, what do you use on your skin in the summer? I usually use La Roche-Posay Rosaliac serum and moisturiser but I find that when the weather gets really hot this seems to make my skin feel worse. It is the same with sunscreen, it is like the products are creating a barrier and my skin gets hot underneath and the heat can't escape.
I'd love to know if there are any other options out there that are good for rosacea when it is over 30 degrees.

I accidentally cured my Rosacea (honestly, it was an accident). I had a bad throat infection, took the usual antibiotics which worked but not 100%, after that round ended I got worse and worse and ended up having to take another drug after a couple of weeks, which worked while I took them but, again, when I stopped I got worse again bit by bit, so I had to take a third different drug after another 3 weeks.
This last one was three pills, one a day, I took the first one, took the second one and, in the morning, went to the bathroom and had to do double a take when I looked in the mirror. My brain signalled something was off but I had to stare and stare for a while, I couldn't put my finger on it, then it just hit me! Wait a minute, my cheeks aren't bright red anymore. I'd had rosacea for so long it took a while to look in the mirror and see myself. Tbh I don't remember not having rosacea, I probably had it since I was kid.
So, just to say, a dermatologist might be able to help. Having said that the only thing that helped (though it was temporary) was rosehip oil. I'd put it on the evening before bed and the next day it was gone but back at the end of the day or the next day. Not all brands worked though so I'd start with the cheapest and work my way up till you find your holy grail. Apart from that I wore sunscreen daily, even during winter, and kept my eye open to how my skin reacted to skincare. My skin really liked the Welleda cream, the pink one for sensitive skin. Alcohol made it worse but I also liked it for spots so it's a balance imo.
I'd also recommend you try a different sunscreen. Try a different brand. There are so many my skin doesn't like, you really need to get a bunch when they're on sale and try each one for a few days. Mineral sunscreen makes my skin more reactive too. Don't dismiss supermarket sunscreen either, the Garnier one is good, though the one with hyaluronic acid made my skin react more, so, again, you need to try them rather going by others.

I am using these, & am really happy either them. My rosacea has pretty much disappeared.

For sunscreen I use medik8 daily protect spf 50. It's also a moisturiser so I can skip another cream.

I wad orescrive soolantra by my derm. Your GP might be able to prescribe but if not you can get an online private script for it.

It took about 8 weeks to be "cured" and now I just need a maintenance application once a week

What kind of website is that? It looks dodgy tbh, "amzn.eu" and "mnforum"? I wouldn't click on that OP.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/07/2023 22:50

I thought the GP can prescribe stuff for rosacea?

I have rosacea but I haven't sought treatment yet as I'm breastfeeding. I was under the impression it's antibiotics or tablets for a while to make it go away.

Tryingoworkitout79 · 18/07/2023 22:52

I got Soolantra on prescription from my GP and it's been a game changer for me, nothing else was working (and I tried a lot!), my rosacea was really getting me down as it was looking so angry, then I tried this and 2 weeks later - gone. Couldn't believe it

Oceanus · 18/07/2023 23:07

It was an antibiotic that made mine go away and, fingers crossed, it won't be coming back! It's been gone for over 2 months-ish. I took something called Zithromax.

Just links to Amazon - not done links before, may be I’ve done them wrong. I’ll try & do screenshots.

Oceanus · 19/07/2023 08:18

That's not Amazon nor does it appear to belong to Amazon. It's the second or third time I see somebody recommend this potentially dodgy company, not even google is sure who owns it or where it's based.

Cornishmumofone · 19/07/2023 08:23

On a phone, the links take you to the Amazon app. They're just shortened links.

Oceanus · 19/07/2023 08:32

@Cornishmumofone this link ends in ".eu". Amazon websites in Europe end in ".co.uk", ".de", ".it" etc, they don't end in ".eu". Still, people are free to spend their money wherever they want. To each their own!

Cornishmumofone · 19/07/2023 13:16

If I share a link from the Amazon app on my phone it shortens the link to amzn.eu It's not a dodgy link, it's a genuine link to the UK Amazon site.

ToWonderWhyIBother · 19/07/2023 13:23

I also used Soolantra and it has totally cleared mine. I used it twice a day sparingly and then when it cleared, I stopped as I didn't want my skin to get used to it. Only use it when I can feel and see it starting again and usually only need a couple of applications and its gone again. Total game changer for me and my purse as I had tried everything to try and get rid over the years.

I have been using the garnier vit c serum that has a spf of 25 included, when I went on holiday last month and it worked really well.

Oceanus · 19/07/2023 13:29

@Cornishmumofone I see! Honestly I didn't know that as I don't use the Amazon app. Maybe it's a recent thing as online I can't seem to find anything about it so assumed the worst. Google doesn't seem to recognise that website. Loool! Thank you for letting me know.

Sadless · 19/07/2023 13:38

I got mirvaso 3mg gel from Dr's anyone used it and has it helped. My face is red and Dr said full of broken veins.

Thanks
Sal

ChiaraMontague · 19/07/2023 13:50

Thanks everyone for the very helpful replies! There are some good recommendations for products and I'll give them a try to see if they work better for me in the summer.

I am also taking antibiotics and using azelaic acid daily which was prescribed by my GP (I will investigate if I can get Soolantra on prescription now as many people seem to be saying they got it from GP) Those have really calmed down my rosacea so it is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. I have patches on my cheeks which used to get really sore and raised - sort of chapped feeling - especially in extreme heat or cold, and that effect has calmed down a lot since I've been using the prescribed products.

But during the hot weather back in June, I noticed that I still get the "rosacea flush" - redness over my whole face when I get really hot. It felt like it was exacerbated in very hot weather and my skin heats up and then that heat can't escape because the skincare products I've been using feel like a barrier locking the heat in.

If you use Soolantra, does it also stop that kind of "rosacea flush" or is that still an issue?

OP posts:
Tryingoworkitout79 · 21/07/2023 21:48

My rosacea isn't so much flushing but more lots of little raised spots and red patches on my cheeks, so I'm not too sure how it would help with that, though it was recommended to me by someone who had flushing too.
Same as a prev poster mentioned above, I apply twice a day, just a thin amount, though I've reduced that down to once a day and I might stop altogether for a bit as skin is totally clear now (something I never thought I'd say!). It was really getting me down, I tried Tropic, La Roche Posay and Azelaic acid from boots, but the spots were still really angry and some days looked worse with the azelaic acid.

Because of that, I'd definitely recommend Soolantra, it may not work for everyone, but worth a try! good luck.

Oceanus · 21/07/2023 21:55

@Woohoonoonoo Sorry for implying those links were dodgy. I stand corrected!
OP, a dermatologist might be cheaper than trying this and that from the GP. GP's aren't experts in skin.

Zeebeededodah · 21/07/2023 22:09

Can I check with those that recommend Soolantra - does it clear the redness? My skin is looking better having switched to cereve products - but still look a bit red?

fredasfrock · 21/07/2023 22:13

I used Skin & Me. Metronidazole niacinamide and azelaic acid. It took a few weeks but I'm almost clear now. Probably six weeks to be completely clear, it got worse initially.

Tilllly · 22/07/2023 05:30

I have mild/moderate rosacea

Boots Soltan once for face SPF 50 doesn't annoy it at all - they do a couple of types

In winter, I mix a smidgeon in with aveeno (the green lid one) moisturiser

It's a bit greasier than I'd like so have to wait a few minutes for it to "soak in"
