Any experience of Fashion Tours London? Or similar?

Researching potential 'experience' gift for fashion/design-mad friend's 30th birthday.

Bespoke tour with a quirky and knowledgeable guide looks a good fit.

£50 max budget.

Anyone been on one/ any recommendations for something similar?

TIA

Tbh I can't see what you'd get out of this that you couldn't get from a good up to date guide book/ shopping guide and just walking around Mayfair, St James, Chelsea, Camden Market, Notting Hill etc. Add an afternoon tea?

Shopping in London

London is one of the finest cities in the world for shopping! Explore one of the colossal department stores, shop for high-end fashion or save buy designer fasions for less at a consignment store or outlet mall.

When you say £50 maximum budget do you mean £50 for the cost of the friend and £50 for you to go with her? Or were you thinking of just paying for her to go on her own?

I think the "fashion tour" looks a bit of a rip off anyway but I'd hate to be on a 4 hour tour on my own with just the guide.

V&A fashion tour which is free and then lunch?

Thanks, both.

She has a National Art Pass card, so regularly catches museum exhibitions. Will double-check she knows about the free V&A tour, though!

£50 budget was just for her. We wouldn't be adding any meal/afternoon tea option, as separate dinner organised.

So it would be both of us going, with a 4hr max turnaround.

I suppose my thinking re a private tour guide who really knows their stuff was that it would provide the most bang for the buck.

Not the shopping per se (at which she's a pro), but filling in background history/offbeat, unusual stuff you wouldn't necessarily hear on a standard group tour. Perhaps being introduced to some unfamiliar small labels. But itinerary drilled down to whatever she's most interested by.

Cynical me is a bit suspicious of by how much certain tour guides' 'recommendations' are influenced by commission rates, though, so will research carefully.

OK I think they look a lot more than just wandering down Portobello Road with a guide book but then I am not an expert shopper!

My experience of fashion shopping in Notting Hill is that it rapidly gets overwhelming and depressing, so going with someone who was tailoring it to my interests, knew all the independent retailers and telling me all about the history of fashion in the area would be fantastic.

That's Harry Styles' cardigan!
I pop in and see it everytime I'm in London.
There's currently a Diva exhibition at the V&A, I've not been yet, but the men's fashion one last year was excellent, as was the Korean one.

Interesting. I'm back in the UK in October will have to pay Harry's cardigan a visit.
