Funky Wedding- footwear, warm top ,help needed for this dress

Going to a wedding next June in rural location close to Bath . Young, well off hipster types. The wedding is in a field, lots of dancing to live folksy type band, vegan food.

I’d like to wear this dress. It’s got a boned bodice so goes in and then is flouncy. I know it’s a bit early 2000 but hoping it was never a popular style so won’t be out of style.

So what shoes or boots please? I don’t want to look as if I’m doing the whole “Pink circus” looks with DM’s and want it to look more stylish wedding than festival. And suggest a warm top half too if you can. I see why some people say buy the shoes first and plan the outfit from there but I love this dress.

Can’t really tell the colour. Is it khaki?

Hot chocolate, Irregular choice and Jo Browns all have interesting shoes and boots.
You could search on Debenhams or Next for shoes and jackets/wraps/cardigans as both sell lots of brands.

TizerorFizz · 17/07/2023 13:18

Hmm. I think it’s a very dull dress! I would still choose a floral. Boots? In June? Maybe if it rains. Otherwise sandals. Hopefully there’s a tent if it rains? DD went to a similar wedding and everyone spent quite a lot on outfits. They didn’t look like Glastonbury try-hards.

Marchintospring · 17/07/2023 13:31

Thanks! It’s in a rainy but of the world and I’m imagining it might be like this weekend or Glasto normally is ie wet. So boots would look ok if the dress was sufficiently summery?
Its grey. I shall investigate ‘interesting” boots. The dress is quite busy with the puffball flounces and corset top though. Perhaps the dress only works with heels.🙁
Good to have opinions.

Lucky you, @Marchintospring! I know that area well and it’ll be a lovely dressing opportunity.

No specific suggestions but I’d keep an eye on Cawley Studio. You won’t remember Droopy & Browns in Bath, but Cawley is similarly romantic and eccentric. It may serve as inspiration, or if you’re very fortunate you may decide on one of their sheepskin jackets.

Your first 2 are excellent choices for that dress, especially the sandals.

noglow · 17/07/2023 21:50

A lace/crochet cardi/coat?

I absolutely adore the dress.

Why! What is this obsession with wedding = floral

Especially when OP wasn't asking "what do you think of the dress" but "what goes with the dress"

Capacious Hag's answer is excellent. The gold sandals are something I personally wouldn't ever have looked at but I can see that they're a really interesting style and would be ideal with the dress. And might even have a think about them for myself in the future.
I have dresses they'd go with.

Bathmatts · 17/07/2023 22:16

Christ I'm old if this is on trend 😆😆

Sorry, meant to quote this

Marchintospring · 17/07/2023 22:29

@NatashaDancing wow really similar. Mine is very old so @Bathmatts don’t worry it’s not in the least on trend! It is cotton though. That’s a MN must 😁

I just love the dress and look for excuses to wear it. It’s just the wet field vs lovely wedding that has flummoxed me.

Right..hear me out..is it a festival vibe? Would some wellies work? Those fancy hunter ones?

Marchintospring · 17/07/2023 22:35

@CapaciousHag Oh my word. I love love love the stripe sheepskin jacket. £550 is out of my price range sadly but yes perfect.

For those of you who are concerned, im
not bothered about florals at all. I just thought the dress looked a sludge colour and there’s better out there. All Saints is a bit Rock Chic. Not necessarily a field wedding with well off folk from London. I love all sorts of colours and styles. But I guess the big question is: who is looking at the op? Hopefully everyone is looking at the bride. As it should be. DD went to a similar wedding in bright pink. Long. Silver sandals and bag.

mewkins · 17/07/2023 22:52

I like that dress. In a field I'd go for wellies, western boots (calf or shorter) or some ankle boots with a block heel. I don't see the point in trying to walk round a field in anything flimsy. If it's rained at all in the weeks leading up to the wedding it may be a bit boggy anyway.

GellerYeller · 17/07/2023 23:02

Oh my! The jacket is probably pretty onit’s own but the trousers are giving Spandau Ballet meets MC Hammer tribute act. Sorry.

Marchintospring · 17/07/2023 23:05

Thanks everyone. Some really interesting pieces from places I’d never heard off. You lot are fab.

Bit mean … (And I’m ruthless on S&B!) Of course the OP can expect to be observed and admired at the wedding - as all the guests will be. (But oh … I could tell you far too much about the rock chic vibe in field-adjacent villages near Bath … Grin)

Well what the guests are wearing is likely to be more interesting, or at least scope for being more interesting, than what the bride is wearing, if the bride is in white.

I definitely pay more attention to what guests wear than what the bride wears.
