Make-up for an ugly person

So anyway, I've never been a looker and at 40 I'm as potato-looking as I've always been. Every few years I "invest" in midrange foundation, blush, primer, etc (the very basics; I don't wear eye makeup due to thick glasses)...And then months go by and they gather dust because I haven't got a clue how to use them and with 2 tiny children I don't have the time to really learn...So I bin the lot and in a few months I splurge again and buy a load of random Boots bestsellers that then go on to gather dust... and the cycle starts again...

Please help me, MN! How do I choose & use makeup?!

When using a loose powder I dip the brush then tap off the excess into the container. Then I blow more of the excess off (bit of a waste perhaps) and then apply.

How's your skin anyway? If you don't need to cover much just use a tinted moisturiser. The fewer products you use, the easier it will be. There's no need to use foundation at all if you don't need it.

Use the Vit C serum at night, then a light moisturiser (Clinique) in the morning, leave it for 5 min, then apply a primer (I use Hourglass Veil) first and leave again. Often I don't bother with the moisturiser, but I have quite oily skin and it only really needs one hydrating product under foundation.

I would then use a light foundation which then mixes in with the primer/moisturiser (I used to use Bourgois Healthy Mix but they've changed it from light to medium coverage and I'm in a sulk) and only cover the bit that need coverage, no need to mask the whole face. Tiny bit of concealer on spots and under-eyes and that's the base done. I do flick a bit of translucent powder on my nose and if concealer needs setting but not a full layer, and I knock off the excess first.

The aim is minimal products, light coverage, maximum results unless there's something you really need to cover on your skin.
