Stylish but comfy clothes for travelling

Help! I'm going on a bucket list holiday in two months' time that involves 18 hours travelling and I want to be both smart and comfy on the long-haul flight. I'm 5' 2, size 12 with some middle aged spread, so nothing tight on the waist, but more importantly, it shouldn't crease too much.

My wardrobe is full of comfy wide-legged trousers and shirts made from natural materials, so should I just embrace the wrinkles?

I tend to shop in M&S, Hobbs and Reiss but recently got lovely crease free cargo trousers in Matalan. I'm not adverse to wearing pyjamas either 😁Budget is about £100. TIA.💝

I’ve worn cotton jersey dresses on several long haul flights and find them very comfortable. On my last long haul flight, I wore a pair of navy cropped jersey Plazzo trousers from Meandem and a striped cotton jersey top which was a really comfortable outfit and looked well too imo.

DailyCake · 13/07/2023 18:39

Thank you@Sunnydays0101 I'll have a look at meandem's website as jersey might be the fabric I need! I'm not keen on a dress unless it has pockets.

My go to is a seasalt dress, leggings and trainers. Add a cardigan or soft jacket as planes can be cold

Mercurial123 · 13/07/2023 19:01

I wear Issey Miyake Pleats Pleats. Super comfortable and no creases.

Lagershandy · 13/07/2023 19:26

M&S drawstring trousers, tapered leg, £27.50 and comes in navy, black and charcoal (Unable to post a link)
I always wear the navy ones long haul, and even after an eleven hour flight they still look great. I team them with a cashmere hoodie, a navy tee and loafers.
AND they have pockets!

DailyCake · 13/07/2023 22:06

@Mercurial123 I was thinking of plissé trousers but I don't want to pay Issey Miyake prices! Love one or two items though.

@Lagershandy I have the petite M&S linen wide-leg trousers and they fit me perfectly. I'll have a peek at the ones you recommend. I already have the loafers, a cashmere cardi and navy T! 😂
If the trousers are suitable, I'll buy a couple for daytime sightseeing.

Try QVC, they have a few petite ranges but Kim & Co from them are great to travel in and look smart even after a long journey, there’s a wide range of colours and styles, they last forever, wash like dream and no ironing either! They also do fab jumpsuits and dresses in a twist variation and these add shape and hide anything you want to hide in the Kim & Co range, also the Brenda Edward’s petite jumpsuits and dressy cargo pants are also very flattering and comfy for travel. Have a fab time op 💐

DailyCake · 14/03/2024 21:34

Thank you @Crystal8559. I'm now shopping for a Med cruise in April, so will check out QVC.

Also try Shein, I took a lot of their things on a cruise, won’t break the bank as the prices are very reasonable. Enjoy your cruise!

Hush harem trousers (if they are still doing them) or Sweaty Betty Gary joggers in cropped

I’m 5’3 and these are my go to “ultra comfy but look ok” trousers.

stardust777 · 14/03/2024 22:58

My go to on a long haul flight is lightweight cotton or linen trousers (so that I can wear flight socks). I usually go for black or a dark colour - something like this: https://lovall.com/products/everyday-linen-trousers-navy

HaveringGold · 15/03/2024 06:37

I travel similar distances a lot as live abroad.

Go to outift is Lulumelon https://www.lululemon.co.uk/en-gb/p/dance-studio-mid-rise-jogger-full-length-/prod9080134.html . Size up at least one size for comfort and more flattering. Super comfortable, don't go at the knees and very light weight. Also ribbed at ankles so don't get in a mess in airplane toilets!!

Then Uniglo layers, I wear one of their camis or vests with a built in bra and usually a long sleeve tshirt

Finish off with a huge pashmina - mine is from White and Warren but was a gift, and was expensive but, in my case, has been worth it. However lots of cheaper options.

StarlightLady · 15/03/2024 06:44

I always wear a loose dress for long haul, no belts, buckles, and keep a cardigan to hand. Spare dress in cabin bag, because l’m a bit of a messy girl when eating on an aircraft. The dreaded food blobs!

Twilightstarbright · 15/03/2024 07:12

I wear a scamp and dude maxi dress and put my gym leggings underneath (I exercise on holiday so would be taking them anyway) and a sweatshirt on top or a cardigan. They look really stylish and are useful there.

I also love my Uniqlo down coat that packs away into a little bag for getting to and from the airport in the UK (go by tube/train to Heathrow or Gatwick).

Triptastico · 15/03/2024 07:15

I would go for something from Varley.

Varley

FindingMeno · 15/03/2024 07:27

Loose dress. Creases are fine if it's a natural material imo. Optional leggings underneath.
Pashmina or wrap.
Flat, easy slip on or off footwear.
I think the simple look is the best look, and being too well dressed for travel is a bit try-hard.

DailyCake · 15/03/2024 09:05

I'd never heard of Varley, but love their sweats. Also like the petite range at Lovell. I prefer not to wear a dress for flying as I like lots of pockets to hold junk.

@FindingMeno I didn't know there was such a thing as being too well dressed for travel!😆
