Are skater dresses too young / outdated?

I am trying to save money and found this dress in my wardrobe. Is it too short / young and ‘5 seasons ago’ for a person in their 40s to wear to a wedding reception?
If it’s ok, any summer shoe suggestions for someone who hates sandals / toes 🤮?
TIA

Gold shoes. Gold is a neutral, goes with everything and doesn't look to matchy matchy.

I love skater dresses and I'm in my 50s. I'm a bit of a pear shape so they really suit my figure. It looks great on you!

I had a good rummage in my wardrobe last night and found a few bits. Would this be better with a nice bag, earrings and a necklace?

I like that dress too but I would say the other one is better for a summer wedding.

Oh I love the black and orange!.. the wide belt gives it a 90’s feel. You look gorgeous! Another admirer of your figure!

Still going with the first one

You look lovely in it

First one. The black and orange outfit is nice, but it says to me "dinner out" rather than "wedding". The first one would suit a wedding well, I think. Yes, it may not be the current trendy length, but is anyone really going to notice and/or care? I assume you are a guest rather than a principal participant? The colour of the first one is nice, summery and the shape looks good on you.

Thanks for the replies I will stick with option 1 unless the weather turns out to be awful

I vote for the first dress, it’s not the height of fashion due to the length but also doesn’t scream “dated” to me. It’s a nice dress and you look lovely in it.

You look good in the other outfits too but I don’t think they’re quite right for a wedding. You have a great figure!

I think this style qualifies as classic OP! And you look great in it. I love these kind of dresses, they're much more flattering on me anyway than most of the current trends.

I agree with PP who said it needs neat shoes/formal accessories to feel more wedding-y. For comfort over a long day, what about closed-toe wedges in a neutral or a colour similar to the red/pink in the dress?

Both dresses fit... but they're both just a dress that could easily be worn to work. Nothing special. If you don't have money to get something new for the wedding, they're fine but if you can afford to, a new more up to date dress would be better.

There's a great page on Facebook where you can pick up fabulous dresses to wear to weddings at great prices. Maybe have a look on there? It's called Pre-loved wedding and Ocassion outfits UK.
