I have always used the rub on ones myself, and found them good but they do streak.
SO had a spray tan done in a salon (thinking this would be the best thing ever and its gone all streaky around my hands and arms).

Luckily this was a trial run, now i dont know what to use or try???

I HAD exfoliated before hand.

Was it just a one off bad experience or is there always that risk with salon ones too??

Some advice would be graet thank you.xxx

I had st tropez done at a salon prior to getting married.......no streaks!!
That said they did the exfoliating etc.

flowerybeanbag · 25/02/2008 10:14

I use L'Oreal airbrush stuff, it's fab, there's a face one and a body one, used it for a wedding last year with no problems. Does take a wee bit of practice though, so do it a few times beforehand.

I've never had a salon spray tan. For a special occasion I'd consider a sunbed as well, as long as you don't use one normally a few sessions won't kill you I don't think. Wouldn't ever use one regularly though.

mindermummy · 25/02/2008 14:09

I hated the thought of using sunbeds; although if its gonna look better it may be an option. How many times on a stand up one would get a nice brown effect??

I have herad st tropez ones are goodd.

With the arbrush one(flowerbeanbag) did you do it yourself and how??
thanks

Use the gradual buildup moisturiser things (Johnson's Holiday Skin, Boots Holiday Glow, Dove Summer Glow, L'Oreal Nutrisummer, etc.). Much less risk of any streaking although you will need to start buildup well in advance of the special occasion.

Nicecupofwine · 25/02/2008 14:34

I use Dove Summer glow as it smells quite nice. It takes a week or so to build up a healthy tan but looks blotchy if you exfoliate during this time. I use it just before my summer hols.

flowerybeanbag · 25/02/2008 14:36

yes do it myself, you just kind of spray it liberally like you would hairspray. Got DH to do my back, takes literally 10 secs so he doesn't mind doing it, not like when I used to get him to apply St Tropez on me...

Depends how fair you are with the sunbeds, and how brown you want to be, maybe 3 sessions or something. I don't think that's going to kill you if you are unsure about your spraying technique, but understand your concerns definitely.

SilentTerror · 25/02/2008 17:54

Have just used St Tropez airbrush myself(the one you do at home) and got very good results. Does take a bit of practise though!

mindermummy · 25/02/2008 18:07

how much are these kits then? and how many times do you get to tan out the bottle??

OP posts:
SilentTerror · 25/02/2008 18:31

Was not a kit as such, just a can.Used exfoliating gloves for a few days beforehand.I bought it off ebay for £11,I think they are twice that in the shops.
Only 150ml bottle, but I suspect if you sprayed once or twicw a week it would last a month or so.

DualCycloneCod · 25/02/2008 18:35

saint tropez

mised wiht moisturiser
gradul applic day on day

MissingMyHeels · 25/02/2008 18:35

I would suggest a salon fake tan - not spray. This is where they exfoliate you and apply a cream/mousse tan as opposed to spray it on, this works for most people and gives a streak free result due to professional exfo and application.

Obv trial it first though. Your salon should give you a refund if it is streaky, this shouldn't happen, you're paying for a treatment because you don't want streaks, we can all apply a streaky fake tan at home!!

st tropez mousse, I've never had streaks with that, and I often am rushed/too lazy so don't exfoliate that thoroughly neither.

I had a salon one done once before going on hol. It looked ok, but a bit dark, then went on holiday where temps were 35c and it all came off on the sheets as I sweated. It was terrible!

TimeForMe · 27/02/2008 11:07

Can I ask, is the St Tropez a dark colour when it develops?

chopster · 27/02/2008 11:10

I put it on quite thinly, and find I need two goes at it to get a nice colour, so I don't think it is dark.

TimeForMe · 27/02/2008 11:50

Thanks I usually use the johnsons holiday sun so thats a gradual build up. I fancy trying the st tropez but don't want to get too much of a shock when I wake up

mindermummy · 27/02/2008 14:21

Yes i always imagine the st trpopez coming out really brown/red. Its kind of got a stigma to it.
I thought it did come in shades>??

I dont think the mousse does, it's jsut called whipped bronze. The mousse is a lot more delicate, ideal for fairer people like me.

mindermummy · 27/02/2008 22:00

thanks

I am very pale and have used the Saint Tropez mousse with no problems - it's quite fair. For me seems eadier to avoid streaks if I put quite a bit on - have only had streaks where I've tried to apply very lightly and probably missed some bits - however much I put on it doesn't end up very dark.
