Vinted question

Hi just wondered why a Vinted seller wouldn't respond to an offer?

I can't tell if the seller has seen the offer message so I don't know whether to offer more or not? It's happened twice yesterday with two items I've offered on. Is it normal not to respond to an offer? TIA

They probably haven’t seen it.

Vinted was down for a while this morning too.

Or, they just can’t be arsed with it if it’s too low, I guess.

Penguin34 · 11/07/2023 18:20

What was the asking price and what was your offer?

AHelpfulHand · 11/07/2023 18:20

people won’t respond if they think the offer is an insult

CarbonNeutral · 11/07/2023 18:20

Sometimes sellers don't respond to offers if they're really low. Although it doesn't take two seconds to hit the decline button does it.

sunshinesupermum · 11/07/2023 18:35

CarbonNeutral that's what I thought. When I've received an offer I think is too low I just reject it. Takes two seconds.

AHelpfulHand I was expecting to negotiate! The first item was marked at £45 and I offered £35; the second was £12.99 and I offered £9.50.

At what point should I make a second offer then? I do want both items!

The £12.99 item has been listed for 4 months! You'd think they would be in the market for an offer by now.

Vinted mithers you when there's something that you haven't responded to so they likely know and think it's too low. I'd offer again now if you want the item.

mummabubs · 11/07/2023 18:47

You could always send a follow up message asking if they've seen your offer? That's what I did and they hadn't seen the offer and accepted it immediately.

sunshinesupermum · 11/07/2023 19:01

Thanks mummabubs will do that!

Sometimes they’ve sold elsewhere or given it away. They’ll see the offer, realise they need to take it off Vinted but plan to do it a later time. Or they could be away with limited data?

ViaRia01 · 11/07/2023 19:15

Perhaps they’re busy and this item for sale is not their main priority. Perhaps they haven’t decided whether they can accept your offer. Perhaps they want to give it a bit more time to see if anyone else buys at full price before deciding whether to reject/ accept your offer.

they’re under no obligation to you to respond quickly.
if you want the items, I’d say just buy them at full price.

RecklessBlackberries · 11/07/2023 19:18

I got a load of abuse from more than one buyer when I declined their offer before, so now I just don't respond

AFAIK you can still make a second offer or buy the item for full price without the seller needing to decline?

AHelpfulHand · 12/07/2023 20:52

I think people expect you to only off a couple of quid off. So £10 off a £45 item will likely get a decline.

the seller would have expected you to offer £40-£43.

the £12.99 one, the seller would have expected an offer of no lower then £10.

if you really want the item I would just pay the asking price for it

Solonomi · 12/07/2023 20:53

i never reply to offers, I just accept the ones I think are reasonable.

Pigtailsandall · 12/07/2023 21:13

I sometimes don't even log into vinted when I get a low offer on my email. I was selling something for £17.50, someone offered me £10 and when I saw the email I just left it. I'm not logging in just to reject a piss take offer

othgraph · 12/07/2023 22:51

If you are lowballing then that is probably why or if they've put on their profile no offers and you've made an offer which probably pisses them off.

If I get lowballed I will make an effort to decline but if they don't take the hint that I don't want to accept an offer (ie haven't counter offered) then sometimes I block them. If you really want the item then I would suggest paying the price they are selling at, or risk them blocking you if you offer again.

skippy67 · 13/07/2023 09:04

I wouldn't respond to an offer £10 below asking price either.

FFSCarrieBradshaw · 13/07/2023 10:58

I never respond to offers.

I put my items on at a sensible price. Buy it or don't. I don't have the headspace to be engaging with offers.

(I've made 3k on Vinted since November, so I know that well-priced, decent items sell well).

Omgwhatthehell · 13/07/2023 11:27

Bloody hell @FFSCarrieBradshaw what kind of thing have you been selling, out of interest?!

OP I suspect they are not replying or counter offering because they are low offers. Although personally I think it’s nicer to at least decline if you’re not interested in an offer.
I find it a bit baffling when people offer 25p less on an item I’ve already priced at, say £1.50.

hattiemus · 13/07/2023 11:35

It's plain rude but to respond at all - if deliberate.

I've only seen an offer ignored where the seller listed the item several months before and hasn't been active on Vinted for a while.

A decline is better or a counter offer.

hattiemus · 13/07/2023 11:36

It's plain rude not* to respond at all - if deliberate.

RicksTheHunk · 13/07/2023 11:40

I think it’s only courtesy to respond when you can. I don’t make low offers but I always hope I’ll be counter offered after a decline, you don’t always know people’s intentions when they price something up.
