DS (19) mentioned over the weekend that he 'thought he might' apply to some model agencies. I was more than a bit surprised as it's not the kind of thing I thought he'd be into. Of course I'm biased and think he's beautiful but he's over 6ft, skinny and does have a 'sharp' sort of bone structure (can't think how else to describe it!) so who knows?

However what I do know is that it can be a bit of a shark tank and there is lots of potential to get ripped off? Is there anywhere he could go for advice etc? Is it better to apply online (eg send in your photos) or go to these face-to-face things?

(And yes, he's technically an adult and doesn't need mummy's help but, y'know...)

I went as support for a friend ages ago. So things may have changed. Went to Storm modelling agency. He took some photos with him and they had a quick talk with him. Took a Polaroid and told him he wasn't what they were looking for. Took less than 5 minutes. He was v. v. good looking.

Go to the well established ones and don't hand over any money.
Or hang around the cool bits of London and wait to get scouted.

My only advice is not to pay for pictures! You can apply by going to a model agency in person or sending photographs and details of your measurements to them. Beginners do NOT need a portfolio, agency recruiters can see whether someone has what they need without special lighting & poses.

It's a waste of time to apply with cruddy 'agencies' and I'd have more advice for a girl - but, basically, if their website doesn't show impressive work and you never see their credit on fashion photos, don't bother. If they ask for money, they aren't a real agency.

It's not all about being good looking. The camera can make attractive people look bland, and some unattractive people have incredible camera 'presence'. Massive cheekbones are a good start, though 🙂

I got scouted a few times in my late teens/ early 20’s in London. I was what you would describe as quirky looking. It was always Models 1 that approached me. Saying that, despite the number of times I was scouted they never called me & I never pursued it. I think it is very cutthroat but if your DS is edgy looking he could approach a big agency like Models 1. They have some good advice on their website!
