Minimalist severe clothes on the high street

If like me, you like minimalism, where do you shop? I define minimalism as
no floral or ditsy prints
no puff sleeves
no frills or pussybow collars
no tiers
no principal boy sleeves
no yokes
Basically as little embellishment as possible.

So far I have Cos, Arket, Community Clothing, And Other Stories ( sometimes,
M and S ( sometimes), Muji...

APC and Sessun are worth a look. Also, Raey at Matches. Their sales are good.

My style is similar, and sometimes I find gems at H&M but you have to shift through a lot of stuff.

I have a lot of things from the brands you listed, plus Uniqlo. I also have a few things from Kin at John Lewis and some Toast knitwear.

I love the aesthetic of cos but it never ever suits me (I’m too short, I think). Basically, I go to all shops but follow the “rules” you’ve outlined. So for instance finery does some terrible fussy clothes, but likewise occasionally completely unembellished. Have a lovely dress from them (via John Lewis). Whistles can be good too. Very occasionally Benetton thought the quality is crap.

Kin - again, I like the aesthetic but the clothes are HUGE. I always look terrible in kin, like a ship (barge) about to set sail. Tho this could be because I’m below average height…

As to the above I’d be looking at the below budget depending and there are some more flouncy pieces occasionally! I wear this style of clothing and your definition of 'high street' may vary depending on your lifestyle and location (I'm large city based) but I have purchased from:

Studio Nicholson
Margaret Howell
Toast (occasionally)
Ischiko / Oska (fabric and shape depending can be more layered / droopy if linen)
Monki (can be bright patterned but for the price the denim / cotton is decent)
Folk Clothing
Sunspel
Yohji Yamamoto - the Y’s is quite avant garde but has some great simple pieces as well. The Y-3 adidas range is also good, some sports wear but some great wool shirts and trousers.
Comme Des Garcons
Issey Miyake
Jil Sander
Egg Trading (extortionate but lovely)
Apuntob
Casey Casey
Girls of Dust
Japanese outdoor brands can be surprisingly simple and the quality of often excellent with some technical fabrics so very hard wearing - Nanamica, And Wander, North Face Purple Label, Snowpeak. If you have a contemporary street wear shop in your nearest town or City they often stock these brands i.e Hip Store, End. Clothing, Flannels
APC
Acne
Soeur (I’ve seen this in John Lewis)
Lemaire
Joseph
Ganni (some occasional gems amongst some more foofy designs!)
Maison Margiela (MM6 mainly)
Maison Kitsune
Stutterheim / Rains (outdoor wear)
Fred Perry ( some heritage collections are v good if you don’t mind the insignia)
Eskandar (insane prices new but you can get them in sales on the OUTNET etc for a lot less)!
Sandwich
Sophie D’Hoore
TooGood
Labo Art
LF Markey
Sacai
Loewe
Dries Van Noten
JW Anderson
Junya Watanabe
YMC
Beams Boy

I think there will be a spectrum of minimalism in the above but I think most brands above hit the criteria but will be taste dependent, I stick to darker colours and more oversized or angular shapes so you have to filter occasionally through the more colourful or occasional ditsy pieces with some brands.

Thanks all..Some of these labels mentioned are too expensive for me but I can look for sales. I like Thought sometimes too.

Kin at JL never looks right on me either and I am nearly 5"8. Too much fabric!

I think you can find this aesthetic at Zara mixed in amongst the rest!

Summerhillsquare · 11/07/2023 22:28

Jigsaw have simple but modern stuff in amongst the frills.

Moleinthedark · 11/07/2023 22:35

Recommend the above in the net a porter and matches sales. Can get bargains to save for the next season. And the outnet all times

haribonoyoudont · 11/07/2023 22:44

Worth checking out the clothing lines of some sportswear brands - Adidas and Nike often have some really interested skirts, dresses, etc; also good collaborations. Elvine are good for outerwear.
