Why do dodgy shops have the best marketing pics?

I won't name any, but we all get them advertised on social media. They always have the nicest designs, beautifully photographed. Interesting, original stuff.

Go to standard high street retailers (who are apparently struggling) and everything is either beige versions of Kate Middleton or polyester versions of the Kardashian's.

Why?

Probably because they've copied a designer brand photo and claim it as their own?

DataNotLore · 10/07/2023 14:39

So where do high street shops get their designs? It's all so bloody boring

I know - the designs are so much more interesting than generic blah high street shops.

Yet you know the quality will be shit- frustrating

I'm so tempted by the great photos of garments but ask on here about certain brands and the get a thumbs down- every time.

Something I have often wondered - how can M&S fashion posters in stores continually get the colour wrong. You put the garment beside the poster and it's off. Quite a bit off.
We can get people to the moon but M&S photographers for in store posters can't colour match a garment. 🙄

There are so many things I want to buy on the basis of Facebook or instagram adverts but I have no idea if any of the shops are good. The ideas are fantastic though, so why aren't they replicated on the high street?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/07/2023 19:42

I think there is a lot of photoshop used too, photoshopping patterns onto plain dresses etc.

It's not really my style but is it not honestly the same in terms of style to UK based fast fashion brands like Boohoo, Glamorous, In the style etc?

I agree.
Totally my kind of style yet I know they'd be nothing like the ads.
But yes, why haven't any high street stores cottoned on to these clothes 🤷‍♀️

Not quite on topic but I have been admiring seasonal window displays for Rolex watches, those porters are works of art, rarely seen on high street like this.

I agree - the clothes in Cider adverts are always lovely and just my style. Classic colours, nice cuts…it’s a shame they won’t actually look like that. But even in theory they’re nothing like the clothes I see on the high street.

Yes! I'd buy that stuff in a heartbeat if I thought they'd be reasonable- at a higher price too

When I look for clothes following recommendations on here for classic, well cut things, they're always things I would regard as very unflattering, oversized or just plain weird looking (to me). Or very expensive loungewear stuff like Hush. (Again, expensive for me!) I'd love to find those lovely drapy trousers with wide waistbands, chic looking neat shirts and cute knitwear they have on the Cider adverts, but everything IRL is either cheap fabrics that hang horribly or are cluttered with frills, gross tiered skirts, big floral patterns etc.

LadyEloise1 · 11/07/2023 10:44

There was a dress advertised on various websites like the DM. It was gorgeous and I would have bought it in 3 or 4 different colourways.
I checked with Mumsnetters and they said don't touch the brand. Dodgy as ....
Sad
Angry
Why can't decent brands do similar.
