Altering a neckline?

I have a couple of seasalt vest tops in a nice slub cotton, but I am not at all keen on the neckline. It's just a small notch type cut out, but for some reason it doesn't feel right to me and like I'm wearing someone else's clothes. Its just not my style, but the fabric is otherwise nice. Can I turn it into a rounded scoop or give up?

It's possible as my mum has done this . I wouldn't feel confident doing it,it's probably take it to someone who knew what they were doing. I've had alterations done at our local dry cleaners which have been good and reasonable.

Whereabouts are you? I have a local tailor who, if I can't/won't do it myself, I use.

Hmm, I'm not confident myself, but at the same time I'm not sure it's worth spending money on a tailor.

Looks like this. I mean, it's perfectly fine isn't it?I can't put my finger on what the problem is, there's loads of tops like this, but somehow I just find it....ageing?

Give it a go, what have you got to lose? Unpick what's there, pin it to what you want and re sew. If it's poly cotton you'll prob need bias binding. Jersey may need something else.

The problem is that you don't like it. That's reason enough to get it changed, since you like the tops otherwise. It doesn't matter that other women wear it or even that you think it looks fine on them. It's not something you like, for whatever reason.

I have plenty of necklines I don't wear. This includes the one you show, v-necks more broadly, boat necks. Basically the only necklines I like are a collar or a round or crew neck, but with the round neck one high up near my collarbones, turtle neck for some jumpers.

About the money, consider it this way: if you spend the money, you can end up with a top that you'll feel happy and comfortable wearing. If you don't have it changed, you'll have tops with a neckline you're not happy with, so you'll probably avoid wearing the top much because you'll feel awkward with the top. It's much less wasteful to have it altered to something you'll like wearing than to let it hang around your wardrobe neglected because you won't like it. No point in making yourself unhappy wearing it either!
