Supplements/ princessing from the inside!

Nearly posted this in health, but thought I’d get more answers here.

Anyone want to join me?

I'm trying to lose weight/ be more stylish/ eat better etc. but have decided I want to look into supplements and work on internal health as well. I wondered if we could share tips or suggestions. I am trying to eat more healthily as well. I have stopped eating meat, so started to look into how to replace lost nutrients from this. I need to lose about 3.5 stones and this time, I’m going to do it!

So far, I’m trying these probiotics: https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/pro-ven-womens-lactobacillus-with-cranberry-capsules-60008367 for women's health, plus I saw that they have probiotics linked to weight loss there.

I have also bought some collagen (veg) capsules, q-10 capsules and will take a multivitamin each day.

Clothing wise, I will look better after losing weight. I have big boobs, big hips, relatively small waist from the front, but massive bloated stomach from the side (and c-section overhang).

I am getting a hair cut next week.

I am trying to drink more water and to move more. I plan to build up to other exercise than walking (doing a lot at the moment) gradually because I am recovering from an injury, so will need to be low impact to begin with. Plus I have a bad back - hoping that the weight loss will help with this.

What else could I do?

This morning, I swear I feel a little lighter and my skin and nails feel nicer from the inside (hard to explain!) I'm holding off on trying the scales to weigh myself for another week.

I can't see why taking collagen is helpful. Some on MN have said they've seen benefits though. It's lacks some of the essential amino acids and it is simply broken down to amino acids like any other protein source.

I've read mixed things on collagen too but the dermatologist I go to, who is an ex surgeon, proper doctor, he said he thinks it's worth it. I'm nearly 48 and even though I obviously look older than I did 15 years ago, I think my skin quality is better than it was in my 30s. I also went to see a herbal nutritionist in April after a few years of high stress and massive grief, who did loads of tests on me and gave me various supplements. I now take high strength magnesium, a garden of life probiotic, menopause powders from equi life (adaptogens etc), the collagen and a greens powder. I have also cut out dairy on her recommendation and trying to eat the 30 different fruits, veg, seeds etc per week. I honestly feel the best, most energetic and strongest I've felt in years and years - I wanted to get well before the menopause struck. I've been to Glastonbury in the last few weeks and averaged 3 hours sleep a night, and was also out dancing on Friday night, so something is working for me not to feel shattered on a monday night!

Anyway, best of luck OP... maybe it is all a placebo, but if it works, does it matter?! Oh the other thing I do, as well as move loads (walking, spin, yoga, barre and reformer), is the intermittent fasting, so just eat in an 8 hour window, at least on weekdays. It suits me. I also start the day with protein (always an egg!) - as a pp says, we need more as we get older. I'll follow this thread though for more tips.

I'm doing the Bootcamp on here (low carb, high fat). Plus taking a good Vit B complex, D3 (with K2 which you need if you take D3) and Magnesium Glycinate at night.

My skin and nails are looking really good. Skin is soft and nails seem a better colour and stronger.it might be my imagination but I think I look less wrinkly (although tbf im quite lucky genetically with few wrinkles).

I've never taken collagen supplements. Apparently the benefits to skin are thought to be dubious.

There is some evidence, but I think powder is better than tablets/gummies.

I'm taking collagen, does it help? Who knows

I've been taking it for 3 months now and as far as I can tell it does bugger all.

Keep an eye on your iron and prevent anaemia. A vitamin B complex is good.

What else do you put in it? Eating them would surely do the same and would be better for you again.

Spinach, mango, oat milk, peanut butter and honey - tastes like white chocolate! 😋
