Hypoallergenic lipstick recommendations

Anyone found the holy grail? I have generally dry, sensitive skin, eczema, and a selection of allergies (hayfever, latex, avocado etc). Almost all lipsticks I've tried leave me with flaking lips and a rash round the margin. I've tried expensive brands like Estee Lauder, MAC, Dior; and Boots No 7 which is supposed to be good for sensitive skin, as well as standard ones like Rimmel and Maybelline, all with the same result. I don't know what specific ingredient is causing it - there seem to be a lot of potential irritants.

I don't wear much makeup but do have pale lips and look much better with a lippy on, plus feel more pulled together for public-facing work events, so would love to find a brand which doesn't irritate my lips.

I'm considering trying Bell HYPOallergenic or Naked Minerals after a bit of a read-around, but before shelling out yet more ££ on lipsticks which get used twice and then abandoned, has anyone solved the same problem?

I also have trouble with lipsticks and recieved a Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet sample card free with a purchase of an advent calendar last year.

The colours were so nice that I decided to give it a go assuming I would probably get a reaction, but was amazed that I didn’t.

Have now bought a couple of the full size lipsticks, I waited till boots had 20% off as pricey, and am delighted as had virtually resigned myself to using Nivea tinted balm for life!

There are some of the sample cards on EBay for a fiver if anyone is thinking of trying them.

I love the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvets. They are beautiful.

Thank you @Ponderingwindow is Fenty known for being good with allergies/eczema?

I don’t think they are marketing themselves that way, but they have a surprising number of products show up on my safe list. Far more than Clinique. It may just be my particular set of allergies.

really nice products too, expensive, but nice.

Okay thanks - I will check it out

The brands that market themselves as “clean” or vegan might be good to try, too. They are super expensive though. Westman Atelier and Victoria Beckham are two I suggest. The high end brands like Chanel are on to it too, as a PP said.

Hi,
Hope you are well!
im having the same problem with trying to find an eczema-friendly lipstick and other makeup products? Have you got any other suggestions of products that work for your skin? And did you find a lipstick that you’re not reacting to? Just wondering if you tried RMS? I really hope you’ve found something :))
thank you in advance!

freesiasandpeonies · 27/06/2024 14:42

I have the sample problem - allergic to lipsticks and now also lipliner, I think. It’s such a drag. For those who were wondering, I bought an RMS lip/cheek tint (ages ago) which was gorgeous, but I reacted to that too 🤷🏻‍♀️

Would love to hear if anyone’s found a lip product that doesn’t cause problems for those of us prone to reacting!

Deathraystare · 06/07/2024 19:32

I find a problem with Burts bees. It feels like it is 'bruising' my lips!

Sassyshosho · 26/07/2024 17:13

For so many years I’ve resorted to putting loads of Vaseline petroleum jelly on my lips and wearing a lipstick/lip gloss on top of that. It works only for an hour or so but then the lips start itching and swelling up.

The only thing that’s working for me is Almay Lip Vibes lipstick. It’s not very high end but it has a nice color range and doesn’t give any side effects except maybe some dryness on the lips which is very manageable!

Dd and l are allergic to every single lipstick in the world.

Yhe only thing l can wear is this. I can’t wear all Clinique but this is OK. Dd can wear them too. She can also wear Clinique lip oil.

I always put a lip balm on under any lipstick as a barrier. Well out of the 3 l can wear anyway!

I also react to lipsticks. I use the Clinique chubby stick and also the Chanel Lipbalm. The Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip balm is also good and usually reduced on Amazon. Both of these lip balms come in lots of nice colours.

It's likely to be vitamin E which is in almost every lipstick. I'm sensitive to all forms of vitamin E, also beeswax. Try Hourglass Confession lipstick. A lip primer helps. Try Never Feather Lip Prime. Being sensitive to almost every lipstick and lip balm is a nightmare.

BeautyTips · 31/08/2024 07:48

I’ve given up on using anything but my lips are still sore. Beginning to think I’m reacting to Vaseline…
