Forehead vertical wrinkles - any advice please?

Hi all, just wanted to ask for advice as I’ve started to notice a couple of vertical lines come up in my forehead and I’m wondering if I can get rid of them or if they’re here to stay (hopefully not!)

The vertical lines on my forehead only come up in certain light, so I haven’t really noticed them till now. I don’t know if they’re dehydration lines or proper wrinkles yet. I was with my mum the other week and she noticed them and pointed them out (in a nice way though 🤣). She’s in her mid seventies and has pretty good skin and no forehead wrinkles, so I freaked out a bit that I was starting to get lines at my age!

For background, I’m 31 and I’d say my skin is generally okay. I haven’t been brilliant with skincare so far, but now I’m starting to take better care of it (think my motto is better late than never!) It’s only been a couple of months, but I now do a routine of cream cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen in the morning and cream cleanser and night cream at night. I also do a Greek yoghurt mask a couple of times a week, which is lovely and soothing and seems to make my skin seem a bit brighter. I don’t sunbathe, but have had a few sunburns in the past from not being as good as I should be with putting on sunscreen - nothing major, and not really on my face, but still.

I’ve always thought my skin as oily/combination (can be prone to a couple of spots now and then, and had a few bits of acne as a teenager - nothing too major though). It’s also quite sensitive, so I’ve learned to be careful about what products I use (don’t use that many products and try to stick with ones I know that work well).

If you’ve made it this far… I’d say I eat pretty well and try and drink a lot of water. I haven’t always eaten that well, but trying now to have a good amount of fruit and veg with each meal and lots of healthy fats and protein (e.g. nuts, seeds, avocado, eggs, oily fish) and to drink around 1-2 litres of water. I also drink coffee and tea and a bit of milk now and again, but no soft drinks. I think maybe my issue is that I don’t always get enough sleep - I tend to go to bed after midnight after a good old social media scroll (terrible habit, I know) and wake up around 7ish. I should go to bed earlier - might aim for 10:30/11ish. I’ve also ordered a new night cream from M&S - the ultimate sleep cream - as I’ve heard good things about it on here. Time will tell, I guess!

I wonder if anyone could give any advice/tips on anything I can do to help prevent the forehead lines worsening or even reverse them (if possible!) Should I aim to get more sleep, and really try to wear sunscreen when out and about? Since noticing the lines, I’ve become a bit fanatical about wearing sunscreen 🤣

Thanks if you’ve made it this far!

Protect and Perfect every day.
If I stop using it those lines come back.

BansheeofInisherin · 06/07/2023 13:26

Tretinoin. People will rush to suggest Botox, but I am 51 and have 0 forehead wrinkles. I did post a pic in the past, but don't want to now, so just take my word for it!

Otherlover · 06/07/2023 13:30

Is it grooves from your forehead veins bulging slightly causing shadows or is it actual wrinkles in the skin? Are you sleeping face down so is it pillow lines? Is it because you scrunch up your forehead like that? Is it 11's wrinkles?

Aeroflot21 · 06/07/2023 13:40

Thanks all for your replies so far! Really appreciate it.

@Otherlover - I think I probably do sleep face down for at least some of the night. I tend to sleep on my side but maybe I roll over during the night without realising and sleep face down for some of the night. I’ve actually bought a silk pillow case (silk on sleeping side, cotton on other) in case it is a sleep position issue - I’ve only used it once so way too early to tell if it gives results though.

I can’t believe I’m doing this 🤣 but here’s a pic to show you the lines - thought that might be the easiest way to do it. My skin is awful close up 😭

Those are 11s, frown lines, glabellar lines. They aren't very deep. Sunglasses, frown patches, massage the area, face yoga, retin, good moisturiser.

Aeroflot21 · 06/07/2023 15:54

Thanks Clara! I’ve ordered some Protect and Perfect serum and the sleep cream I mentioned earlier, so I’m hoping those will help (and will make sure to take on the other tips you’ve mentioned here).

It's a good age for Tret or Retinol. That's more impactful than a night cream which is usually just a thick moisturiser

Rosti1981 · 06/07/2023 16:33

What is a frown patch @ClaraBourne ?

Rosti1981 · 06/07/2023 16:35

Actually I googled (was being lazy). I'd never heard of these - Do they work?

ClaraBourne · 06/07/2023 17:58

I use them and they make a difference. As yours are quite shallow you would get good results, I have frownies but the Smoothies have good reviews so I will try them next.

smooththecat · 06/07/2023 18:04

You don’t need frown patches, you can use microporous tape. 11 lines have a solution and it’s Botox. Much easier to solve than the rest of what happens when your face starts hanging off 😂

Delatron · 06/07/2023 18:58

Tretinoin is good for lines on the forehead. But yes start with a retinol like Boots one and build up.

SPF every day. Even in the winter.

Ultimately if you’re a frowner then Botox is the solution but I didn’t start until 43. So I’d try all the other suggestions for a fair few years before hitting it with anything harder.

Kind of, ish.

Tret will help a bit but absolutely nothing works like botox for the 11s.

Branster · 06/07/2023 22:08

No7 Laboratoires line correcting booster serum, apply to problem area every single day, the lines will vanish.

It worked for me.

Start using tretinoin now, it's the perfect age, don't leave it any later.

Accept you might get lines elsewhere within the next 20 years but if you start a regular routine now, it should only be minimal lines.

janeyredlion · 06/07/2023 22:10

Botox. Sorry but it's the only thing that will work. It's expensive but will stop it in its tracks before the lines get too defined. They won't come back as strong when it wears off either.

Dermatica and Botox

Botox - go to a registered medical professional

Dermatica has changed my life, I have converted a lot of people (including my lovely dentist) 😂

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/07/2023 22:20

Protect and perfect
Revitalift SPF 30 everyday
and smoothies patches at night - make sure you smooth the lines out before applying. They work for me.

BeverlyBrook · 06/07/2023 23:16

Your forehead is completely normal.

TheOGCCL · 06/07/2023 23:44

If your mum hasn’t got them, does your dad? (If you still have him around). These are usually inherited lines related to your face structure and those muscles are very very strong. My brother has exactly the same lines as me. You see plenty of people who ever get these types of lines because it’s not the way their face moves. Many of those who do erase them with Botox. Botox is good at preventing the lines getting worse as it freezes the muscle so the lines can’t deepen. I agree it seems a bit early for you, it’s expensive too. As well as everything else mentioned, I’d try Argireline.

cocksstrideintheevening · 06/07/2023 23:47

Tret will help but ultimately Botox

Cheesyfootballs01 · 07/07/2023 16:50

Will Botox get rid of my 11’s? I’ve had them for a while but they are really getting me down.

Keepthedogthen · 07/07/2023 17:06

I’ve had good results with L’Oreal’s aloe water moisturiser and hyaluronic acid. Visible difference in the fine lines on my forehead.

Yes.

Back21970 · 08/07/2023 12:24

I stopped Botox as it was making my eyes appear smaller and I didn’t like the overall look - I would try a very small amount though if I was you as that doesn’t happen to everyone.

I have been micro needling at home for a few months and have noticed a slight improvement so may be worth a go too. Yea

Back21970 · 08/07/2023 12:27

Posted too soon!

Its a Bio Beauty Glo Pro I use for micro needing. You can get it done in a salon but quite expensive.
