Best conditioner for fry frizzy thinning hair?

I don’t want to spend a fortune but I do want something decent. My hair is a massive frizzy mess, dry, dull and thin. Snaps when I brush it … it’s awful!

Olaplex works for me. Day today I can’t see a major difference in it. But when I go to the hairdressers and they blow dry it straight, it is like silk and it’s so glossy.

Ididntknowuntiliknew · 05/07/2023 22:39

My hairdresser recommended the Boots Ingredients Hair Moisture Mask, mixed with the Repair Hair Mask. £4.50 each.
The range also has very low price shampoos and conditioners.
I used to pay £££ for products that weren't even vaguely as good as these.

The salon sell high ticket products, so I figured why not try them. Worst case scenario- £9 wasted.
Just try them. They are incredible.

I get on Well with the purple organix one, think it has biotin in it. I get it when on offer half price

Hi
I had hair breakage for many years and tried every conditioner going without much success.
What has made a major difference is using a natural shampoo bar.
I only need to wash my hair about every 5 days now and the breakage has stopped. The one I bought was this

I love it

That'll be the hairdresser's products and blowdrying technique...

With all conditioners, I finding changing the brand regularly works best for me. So when the bottle is empty, I replace with a different make.

FlounderingFruitcake · 06/07/2023 13:29

I have dry hair that’s prone to frizz. After years of experimentation I can be fairly confident that brand of shampoo/conditioner does absolutely fuck all. What does work is good blow dry technique, regular trims and aside from blow drying not actually brushing it except combing the conditioner through in the shower.

Protein mask twice a week for 30 minutes, 1 whole egg and full fat mayonnaise or coconut oil or almond or avocado oil. Rinse out with diluted vinegar if you're in hard water area.

Otherlover · 06/07/2023 13:46

Pure argan oil (As in the ingredient is literally JUST argan oil) on dry hair will calm frizz without weighing down.

Garnier banana hair drink after conditioner. You only have to leave it on for 10 seconds, but it really makes my hair smoother and softer

Fancyateapottea · 06/07/2023 15:49

Redken all soft is brilliant for a moisturising shampoo and conditioner. I would add a protein mask in every now and then in as well to strengthen it. I like the London reincarnation mask

How can anyone tolerate Garnier banana food smell? It's horrid. I do not wish to smell of an overripe banana or the dentist's horrid Fluoride treatment.

This is so true, though I don't understand the science behind it, the first few washes with the "new" conditioner my hair always looks and feels the best

I love Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner. Also use a leave in conditioner before you comb it out and dry it. It makes a huge difference. I like revlon une from Amazon. Lasts ages.

Garnier Banana Hair Food for me. Also very cheap. I don't find the smell overwhelming.

Not revlon une. No idea where I got that from. It's unique one. It's v good.

Also agree that the banana stuff is rank.

If your hair frizzes then it probably has a natural curl. Wash your hair in a silicone- free conditioner then condition it with the same.

Leave your hair sopping wet and scrunch in gel/mousse/whatever hair product and leave it to dry.

Scrunch out the product once dry and it will look tons better.

FlounderingFruitcake · 06/07/2023 20:54

Garnier Banana Hair Food
Smells like kid’s antibiotics 🤢

Lentilweaver · 06/07/2023 20:56

Oh god I must slink away in shame!

Sugarplumfury · 06/07/2023 21:04

I’ve tried Olaplex 1, 3, 6 & 8, Uniq 1, Kerastase, Moroccan oil and loads of others. The combo I’m using now is the best I’ve found for my thin, fine, frizzy, dry hair - Redken Volume Injection shampoo and conditioner, followed by a pea sized amount of olaplex 6 and Redken Big Blowout (pink tube). It was recommended on the YouTube channel called Blowout Professor. I’ve picked up some really helpful tips on there and he tries to allow you to be able to use the minimum products for your hair type, which aren’t necessary and how to wash, condition and style your hair properly so you can reduce the number of washes to 2 per week which is good if you have thin, frizzy, fragile hair like mine. Mine is actually looking a bit shiny now. The uniq 1 I was using to style mine with before, made it look and feel like straw.

Someone on here recommended MASK ORO PURO by Fanola about £9 on Amazon for 1,000ml. Found it works nicely but mustn't use too much or too little; I use about a dessert spoonful

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 06/07/2023 21:50

If it’s breaking then what are you doing to it? Bleaching or highlighting or colouring it?

My hair over lockdown was bleached by mistake and I had to dye it a darker colour and then grow it out.

Redken CAT is great also Redken One United leave in conditioner. Plus a L’ireal Professionel Repair serum which you can only find on eBay now. I used lots of masks and to be honest the best advice I was given was use most masks but leave on for as long as possible and then condition afterwards to seal in.

It took ages to actually see a difference in my hair but now my hairdresser comments on it, it’s still highlighted but I get regular trims too.

Davines Oi mask/conditioner and shampoo are amazing too.

I’ve personally never got on with Olaplex and I’ve tried a similar version by Schwarzkopf which was just as good. My current hairdresser doesn’t rate Olaplex either. Everyone’s hair is different.

I don’t rate the Banana Hair Food either. That range isn’t too bad though, I’ve tried the aloe one and it’s good but the best time I used it was in a sauna and steam room.

I love the smell, no shame for me 🤷‍♀️

The hair drink is a different thing to the hair food, though, it's a liquid that you only have to leave on 10 seconds. Silicone free
