Are you able to tell what someone’s dress size is just by looking at them?

Which is what happened to me the other day, namely someone was able to get my dress size spot on. I can’t say that I can do it.

Even if people can guess what size someone needs in something like a wetsuit, they may often feel embarassed about giving people larger ones if they think it's telling people 'I think you look fat'.

I visit lots of places for work where they have to give me a labcoat or overalls and it's usually the rule that it has to be buttoned/zipped up properly, so it has to be big enough.

I can see them looking at me and having the internal discussion about whether or not they're going to upset/offend me based on the size they give me so I'll try to pre-empt this by telling them that I probably need a large/extra large (I'm about 5'7 and a size 16 hips, so this is where it needs to be biggest and they're often men shaped which obvious means I have to go large on the hips).

If it's a woman handing the things out, I'll just tell her to give me what is closest to a 16, hoping it will help her choose the right size from L/XL etc.

No, I’m rubbish at it. But then, I find in clothes shops assistants always suggest a bigger size than I am. I try not to take it personally but I obviously look larger 🫤

Same here, I think it's a combo of not being short (not that I'm particularly tall either at 5'7") and having a rounder face. But medics are also regularly surprised by my weight (lower than their estimate) so I must just have 'presence' lol

I find the opposite - I'm tall and have quite often found that people underestimate both my dress size and my weight. I think most people have a range of sizes they consider 'slim' and so assume a slim tall person must be that size but of course you're likely to be proportionately larger if you're tall.

See I’m the opposite I’m tall and often assumed to be bigger. However, there’s lots of clothes cut too short but will still fit on the waist, hips and shoulders. But yes, tallness throws a spanner in works.
I do weigh more than people realise though- I’m fine about that!

I was recently challenged about my dress size when I returned two dresses that didn’t fit. I was asked if they were too small and what size I was and told the SA the dresses were the same size as what I was wearing from that same ahop. Shouldn’t be the case but it knocked my self confidence.

In most case I think I get it right.
