Going abroad 30-40 degrees.

Am good for daywear… need some evening ideas; where is good to shop?

40 degrees? Shock

40 degrees in the evening. Blimey, you're braver than me!

Definitely cotton gauze/linen etc. breathable and lightweight...

Budget? Preferred colours/fit?

Average temp about 33 right now, going up to about 37… but we leave in a few weeks time when may be hotter.

Minimum temps 23-26 but that would be dead of night… and we might go for a fancy lunch some days rather than dinner out in evening.

Don’t have a total budget in mind… have still to sift through what I have, but I know i def need a few dressier things.

I tend to buy from Next, Monsoon, Mint velvet, Oliver bonas, Fat face that kind of price range and some things from elsewhere on sale.

Am pear shape so like A line and looser fit definitely with the heat.

I gravitate towards brighter colours so open to this, but I think I would like something a bit more sophisticated too. There are some lovely restaurants.m

Looking for suggestions about where to shop as haven’t seen anything amazing lately.

I bought a blue/white linen shirt dress from Arket which is really nice. It's loose fitting and linen. I also bought similar from Muji but that's in black and in cotton.

I’d suggest Spanish and Australian brands for super hot weather clothes. Northern European brands don’t really do this well.

SurpriseSparDay · 07/07/2023 10:41

Not Mexico, I hope?

120 degrees. Shock New York Times article.

Heat waves across Europe… as I said I’m planning for 30 - 40 degrees…

Check Boden, bit more spendy but good quality and I’ve seen a lot of lovely summer dresses, trousers and jumpsuits on socials from them

Robinni · 13/07/2023 19:14

Thanks @Grumpigal I will check them out tonight. 😊

I have no suggestions since I wear what I am comfortable in - be that cheap or not it doesn't matter to me! But I will say that in high temps I have found that very loose light fabric trousers are cooler than dresses (to me). No chub rub and for some reason they are just cooler, well in the daytime anyway!

I have taken an occasional chair with me on standing up (wearing dress) when my backside and the back of my thighs get slithery/sweaty and the chair is not made of wood or stone, lesson learned! Never had that with trousers though.

I was away in Estepona (Spain) at the end of April this year. Went then because it wouldn't be too hot. Lo and behold a heatwave struck and it was 38d every day. I melted and retreated to the air conditioning. Can't win.
