What's your classic wardrobe must have?

It's official, I am over fast fashion again.

I've started reworking my wardrobe as I've gained weight and my clothes don't fit well at the moment - so now is the perfect time to finally do it.

I've started building a timeless wardrobe and I'm running out of ideas/things I might forget.

I need inspiration for outfits/dresses/hats etc that genuinely always look nice.

I'm so sick of my clothes going out of style, my dream is a complete wardrobe that I don't need to update regularly.

Thankyou everyone! Sorry for the slow responses, DS isn't well so I haven't had decent time to look at the thread.

I'm excited to start getting it going. There's some awesome suggestions I haven't thought of so I'm eternally grateful.

Professionally I WFH in finance - so not really much I need for that except a nice jumper and pj bottoms noone can see I can wear for teams calls.

Omg - I've just seen bags mentioned...off to vinted I go...

I'm talking about classic clothes rather than capsule wardrobe, I think the two get mixed up.
Agree that nothing is timeless there are some exceptions, but generally 5-10 years at most. Also your lifestyle and style changes even slightly over time.
I love classics but they can boring if you don't put edgier pieces with them.
Also t-shirts can be very boxy and shapeless, slightly fitted are much more flattering on me anyway.
I barely have any white and only wear black on my lower half.
My classic clothes are in these neutrals
navy, grey, taupe, khaki, denim, ivory because they suit me.

My list:
Black Cigarette trousers
Black and ivory faux leather jeans
Dark grey, light grey, taupe and navy Cashmere/ wool jumpers
Navy Maxi dress
Khaki shirt dress
Denim dress
Denim skirt
Black leather skirt
Grey, blue and ivory jeans
Denim jacket
Black, ivory and khaki biker jackets
Navy, grey, taupe fitted t-shirts and long sleeve t-shirts
Navy silk shirt
Black doc marten sandals
White converse
Black ankle boots

These are my classic basics, I have a load of more interesting items that can be mixed with these.

For knitwear that is timeless, try NavyGrey. Expensive but is very likely to last a long time

Trench coat
Biker style jacket
Boucle jacket
A stripey over sized shirt - I get endless wear out of one I've had years, great in summer with shorts or with jeans and under a jumper in winter
Silk blouses
Birkenstock sandals
In fact Birkenstock low bend trainers - they are plimsoll style, very low key but look great
Boxy graphic t shirts

I guess it’s a matter of personal taste but I find the Navy Grey knitwear somewhat boring in structure and colour choice! Necklines, cuffs, hems, side seams could all be … less conservative. And the range of colours is drab! I’d much rather choose something from & Daughter, La Fetiche, (my personal favourite) Aethel, Alexandra Golovanoff, Babaa, even Queene & Belle in their heyday (maybe pre-worn). There’s also great choice amongst brands that don’t necessarily specialise in knitwear.

Sorry - just an observation! Probably not helpful. Grin
