Tretinoin and eyebrow waxing

Didn’t read the disclaimer properly last time I went for an eyebrow and lip wax and ended up with a pretty nasty sore on one eyelid and a very red and angry looking moustache area. Lip is healed but I think I may have a scar on my eye. I know I was silly not to be more careful.

How do Tret users deal with eyebrows and facial hair?

I get my eye brows threaded now instead

hettiethehare · 03/07/2023 21:55

Threading. I’ve had no issues at all.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/07/2023 22:49

My eyebrow lady uses a different wax on me, the one she usually has for “intimate waxing” (her phrase). It peels off the skin with the hairs on rather than with a strip if that makes sense?

Penguin34 · 03/07/2023 23:02

I advice clients they cannot have any waxing (anywhere on the body) for the course duration plus half. So if it's a six month course I couldnt wax till 9 months past the course.
All clients have to fill out a pre apt consult prior to every apt (online 24hrs before apt) so if always know that I can't do the treatment.
Plucking is fine though

Threading is the answer. I learned the hard way too OP.

Although, I think I’m going to get my face and neck lasered.

TinaYouFatLard · 04/07/2023 08:24

Thanks for the advice. I’ve had my lip threaded once before and swore never again!

This all makes complete sense now! I usually have threading but they charge a ridiculous amount at my old eyebrow place near me (£70+ for an eyebrow shape and eyelash tint!!) So I tried somewhere else but it was an eyebrow wax and I ended up with huge sores on one eye especially. It looked terrible for days. I thought it must be because I have sensitive skin. It never occurred to me until reading this thread that my tret use was the reason. Aargh!!

BamBamBambi · 04/07/2023 08:54

Iv made the same mistake!

Thread only now

VivaVivaa · 04/07/2023 09:02

Another vote for threading only. Have a scar in my eyebrow post waxing whilst using retinol to remind me.

TinaYouFatLard · 04/07/2023 10:19

Threading booked for this afternoon. I’m only glad I didn’t complain at the time because my first thought was that the therapist had messed up.

Hi looking, how did it heal for you??

currently sporting a skin burn from an eyebrow wax. Told my beautician earlier in the week, she forgot to use a barrier though. Very sore…. I’m putting Vaseline & aloe Vera on- but I am worried it will scar 😭

Op, how did yours heal?

very worried

Currently slathering Vaseline on my accidental skin peel after a wax. Therapist totally forgot. She assured me earlier in the week she could use a barrier cream, rather than having to do threading.

Soon to go on holiday…. gutted 😭

Same here. The wax shrink wraps the hair and doesn’t stick to the skin at all.

I had my skin ripped off with strip wax but haven’t had a problem since I switched to hot wax and switched salons.

It healed in a couple of weeks with no scars but see above also.

Thanks. My therapist usually uses hot wax anyway, I generally get hd brows and face/lip threading & waxing done at the same time. She said she could use a barrier instead of having to thread with retinoids.

I’m honestly gutted. And it is so sore! Luckily she was running behind on time yesterday and only done my eyebrows. Think I’ll stick to threading from now on. I do think a good wax gives better shape though.

That’s strange. Could she demo it on an
area without hair? The inner forearm is usually best.

If it is the correct type of wax it will peel off easily as there’s nothing for it to adhere to. A barrier of some type shouldn’t be necessary.
