Saris and other Asian clothing

Just read pukkapatch's tiffany thread and this reminded me of something I was musing on the other day.

Saris and asian clothing generally always look fairly timeless to me - though clearly I'm not in the know. I wondered if it was just us westerners who update our wardrobes each year.

Are there annual fashions? What's hot at the moment? If so, I want links and I want to know what your mum used to wear that you wouldn't be seen dead in.

Her brown crimplene trousers. I'll pass on those every time.

a mate got married in Nepal a couple of years ago in trad getup thus - the current style was for trouser cuffs so tight you had to put a plastic bag over each foot to get them through...

okie, depends on whether the people wear them everyday, or just o n really dressy occasions. also on thing slike socioeconomic class, and whether they live in england on in the asian country onf origin and majorly on socioeconomic class.
people like me only wear them to dressy dinner parties and weddings. and to mil house. (dh, dont ask) a decade ago, sari's, made of a really heavy brocadey type silk were in fashion. now, you shouldnt be seen dead in them. its chiffon. also, for a while, the mermaid type sari was in,as was the butterfly type. but sari fashions come and go faster with bengali origin people than pakistani origin.

as for shalwar kameez, dsisters friend sent me the latest thing from lahore in th esummer. i dont dare wear it to mil's dh's ire wouldnt be worth it, its sleeveless with capri pants type trousers. looks gorgewous. definitly doesn tcover up much at all. and apparently in pakistan this year, capri pants are the latest thing, and every wears them with everthying, instead of the more traditional shalwar.
but its a bit like boot cut and skinny jeans and boyfrined jeans etc. they change seasonally, but, in general, those fashion concous enough in th euk, tend to stick to western clothes most of th etime. those who do wear asian clothes all the time, don t tend to follow fashions quite so trendily.
all that is ime.

Thanks all, but especially pukka, that's the kind of thing I was looking for. Thank you. Have been happily googling as well to see what you're talking about.
