I'm getting married in June and was wondering whether to go to salon for trial and on the day make up or go to make-up counter in local department store and ask to have a trial and then buy their products. The make up I use now would never last all day (getting married at 11am) Also does anyone know about the make up made from minerals??
Cheers

I had an Estee Lauder trial at my Debenhams. The lady transformed me and also agreed to do me on my actual wedding day for free .
All I had to put up with was walking through the town centre with a sparkly tiara type headband in as it was after my hair appt. Worth a try. Was a great time out for me too. Calmed my nerves no end.

Yes, am getting married in June too, have no good make up any more and had a trial from a beautician the other day and left it on and it lasted all day and night! Think the pro's know how to make it last by putting primer on etc.

if you are having a nice do for your wedding, then i thnk it is defintily worth payign for professional makeup.

I had two or three department store consultations and I did spend a lot but got several things to try over a few months and so felt really confident on wedding day. Clinique were far and away the best.

I also got someone from the local hairdresser to do my and bridesmaid's make up and hair. Totally worth it. Hair and make up were my pressie to bridesmaids. The stylists came to the house and it made for a fabulous time! We felt great. Well worth it on such a day.

p.s. the stylist used the make up I'd bought.

Hi Cathy,

Congratulations on your up and coming wedding. I wish I was getting married again, I really enjoyed my day.

With regards to wedding make up, get as many trials as you can at the counters in the department stores, (they're generally free or a tenner which you can redeem off products) so you can see the types of things they use and any tips they might have. Tell them what you want and how you want to look.

Clarins and Estee Lauder are good places to start. Their ranges are really nice and the make up tends to stay where it is put.

You mentioned mineral make ups, these are fab, try something like Jane Iredale or Glo minerals, these are salon based products only. The basis of the mineral make up is to be kind to the skin and stop it from causing too many blockages, reactions or irritations.

If you're going to go to a salon, again remember you're paying for the service and make sure you tell them everything you want and need, and the things you really dont like.

Take one of your bridesmaids with you so she can watch and if need be on the day, she can touch up your make up as and when you need it.

Try to get a recomendation of the salon you go to or see if they have any kind of look books or before and after pics.

There are also lots of freelance mobile make up artists, try searching on the net to get some ideas.

Sorry for waffling on, but as you can see, I love the whole subject of make up and beauty, it's what I do for a living.

Enjoy trying and make a day of it when you do.

good luck,

Kind regards

Claire

Thanks Claire,Lots of good tips there!
Although I would like the make up done professionally on the day I could do with some new stuff anyway.I know a girl who uses the mineral make up on her clients - may have a word.
I've managed to get my hairdresser to come to me at about 7 am to do hair-so thats not a problem.

Oooh i remember going to Harrods for the first time and leaving my face to the discretion of the clinique counter ladies. really lovely afternoon. they offered to do the wedding also, but i felt confident enough with the products and their explanations to do it myself. really happy with the outcome - and the champagne had nothing to do with it
