Some nose piercing help?

Hi - apologies in advance for a close up.

I did it myself (i know, i know. Regret not getting it done by needle by a professional). Its 3 weeks old and this is what it looks like. No obvious "piercing bump" but a little bit raised.

The raised area started on week 2 and has looked like this for a week. Not sore but tingling feeling from time to time so i'm wondering if i might be allergic. I have also had a mild headache for 3 weeks now but that could be coincidental?

Is this normal looking? the dark bit below the stone is the stem of the stud sticking out as it's a tad too long.

Thank you for any help.

Some nose piercing help?

Ouch! What did you use to pierce it with and what have you been cleaning it with since you did it? It's really important to keep it clean to avoid infection - I've always used a salt spray or just bathed with cooled boiled water twice a day minimum. It looks red and slightly enflamed which to me looks like the beginning of an infection.
Also what metal is the stud? Some metals are more irritating than others.

No ouch but i know where you are coming from. Its a medisept type piercing - spring single use tool and pointed piercing end. I believe it is surgical steel. .

First two weeks - nothing. has stayed exactly like it is now for a week - not got any worse or not progressively larger. No change to size.

it's not sore just tingling. I clean it 2 times a day with prontolind spray. I spray inside nostril and outside.

I gently stream the solution down and dont wipe roughly, no cotton buds etc. no gunk just a raised.

Looks ok to me . It will tingle sometimes keep it clean with salt solution and try not to keep touching it . It will take around 2 or 3 months to completely heal . It does look really good 👍

Glitterb · 01/07/2023 15:34

Do you know what metal the stud is?

Mine has taken nearly a year to heal and only started to heal after I changed the stud to one from solace jewellery. It was mainly a nightmare as I caught it constantly! Piercing bumps are really common on noses, mine had one for a while as well.

nosepierce · 01/07/2023 15:38

hi there- yes its surgical steel. im not sure it's a bump or a normal part of nose healing process.

thank you Wicca and Glitterb.

I don’t think it actually looks that bad, just keep cleaning it and keeping it dry

Vulcanodon · 02/07/2023 16:57

If you’re worried the only thing to do is to get it looked at by a piercer. They can check the angle and gauge for you. You might be ok with surgical steel but a titanium flat back labret is best for healing.

nosepierce · 02/07/2023 17:41

thanks Vulcanodon.

i just spoke to a piercer on friday actually as i was worrying whether the irritated area was in the range of normal or not. She said she'd obvs need to look at it in person also said she'd have to taper pierce to put in a flat back titanium stud as they use 16 gauge for nose piercing and mine is 20g. yikes!

it's actually gone down a lot and raised area is a lot smaller.

if it gets irritated again for a prolonged time, i will definitely consider changing via the professional

Yeah I thought the gauge looked small! Just be aware of the cheese grater effect which can happen with small gauges in cartilage especially if you change to a hoop. Happy healing!

nosepierce · 02/07/2023 18:06

im being a bit unimaginative - what do you mean cheese grater effect?😀

ooh i've googled it. hmmm, had never considered that! thank you

Sorry I should have explained. I’ve seen a few examples where the site gets stretched into a line rather than a hole, especially with hoops that are too snug.

nosepierce · 02/07/2023 19:53

thank you. that's really helpful to know.

You are brave..or mad Grin
But honestly it doesn't look bad; you haven't developed a nasty piercing bump.
I had mine pierced 7 months ago and it's still a little tender. I knocked the stud out 3 times in my sleep so at 5 months popped to the piercer and had a hoop put in and at least I can't knock it out (I did go down to a 20g but plan to only wear that size hoop)
I still give it a squirt with salt spray (Neilmed) most days.
My piercer said that noses can take a long time to really heal. I also switched to titanium as stainless steel did not agree with my nose and it constantly had a little gunky bit where it touched my skin.

nosepierce · 03/07/2023 13:11

Mad i think *StillMedusa". didn't want to go to a piercer because i tend to pass out and go floppy after any piercing and i wanted to do that in the privacy of my own home this time. 😂I'd had it done before 20 years ago and kind of knew what to expect.

Thanks for the reply. It's almost completely back to "normal" i.e not irritated or raised but i think i might be slightly allergic to the metal as i think i also have a very tiny white area/old skin collecting around the post.

Will continue to not touch it and keep rinsing it with saline solution spray a few times a day.
