Rhinoplasty, nose job and post operation care & experiences

Hello

I had a rhinoplasty last week and now recovering. I am curious to hear from others who have undergone rhinoplasty and their post operation experiences as to me it seems that this is the hardest period:

  1. I can not wear my prescription glasses and sunglasses for two months. Some say longer. For how long you could not wear your glasses?
  2. I found on amazon a band that goes over your head to hold the glasses so they dont sit on the nose. Do you have any other ideas, workarounds except contact lenses.
  3. For how long did you have to sleep in an elevated position?
  4. Did you have to tape the nose post removing the splint?
  5. Did you use Kelo-Cote Silicone Scar Gel? if not what did you use for scar treatment?

Anything else that you found difficult or something that helped during the post operation long recovery period?

Kind regards
NV

I fashioned myself a headband to hold the glasses above my nose

It was one of those stretchy fabric hairbands and i wore it round my head (like a sweat band) and attached the bridge of my glasses to the band with tape.

Obviously i looked ridiculous but it did the job! Try something DIY before spending ££

I think i slept elevated for maybe a week or 2,i found it uncomfortable so probably broke the rules a bit early that i was supposed to.

I didn't tape the nose after removing the splint, and i didn't use any scar treatment. The scar is invisible now.

I can't remember much about my post op experience, i think i was feeling pretty good quite soon after.

Good luck!

@Pyaar thank you very much. I will use the tip with the hairband for the sunglasses.

I didn’t wear glasses at the time but I do recall the bruising lasted quite a bit longer than I had anticipated- maybe took 3 or 4 weeks to totally clear.

I didn’t use tape after the splint came off and my scars were inside, I don’t think I had to sleep upright for long (it was 19 years ago so all a bit vague now).

My nose tip sometimes felt a bit tingling and numb for a few years after but I was so happy with the way it looked I felt it was a small price to pay.

Hope you are pleased with the end result 😀

Good for you, OP. My sister had it done about 10 years ago. I always thought she looked beautiful regardless, but it bothered her.

She said it changed her life. No more worrying about first impressions on meeting new people, and she could focus on other things. She became more outgoing afterwards. I think she was advised to take arnica tablets to reduce any bruising and was back at work in 2 weeks.

@Back21970 @BlueRabbitYellow thank you both for your input.

Today I removed the plaster and there is a blue bruise on the bone (upper part of nose). I was told to massage it day and night otherwise I will get a scar.

I am also a bit concerned with my columella as it is a bit prominant on one side. The incision does not look that it has been closed evenly. But I was told that this will settle and even out. Fingers cross, it will all go well.

I appreciate that it is a one year journey prior being confident that the op has been succesful.
