Gel nails for holiday - tweens

cocksstrideintheevening · 30/06/2023 12:49

DTs are nearly 12 and desperate for gels for holiday.

I've never had them done, I just do my own nails so know nothing about them. Are they going to wreck their nails? How do you get them off?

At the moment they are wrecking their nails anyway with glue on falsies that they flick off several times a day!

thanks

Most places won’t do gel nails on under 13s. You have to have them soaked off which costs another £10-£15.

I have gel nails every now and again. I have never had them soaked off.
After a little you can peel them off quite easily.
As a one off I can't see them doing any damage, they never damage my nails.

What about sns nails? It's supposed to be better for nails, although you'd still need to soak them off

Depends if they want Gel colour or full gel extensions. Gel colour will come off on its own within 3 weeks or so. Gel extensions will likely need to be taken off professionally.

Just gel varnish on their own natural nails will be fine. (I’m a nail tech). They can be soaked if when they want them removed (around £5) or as most kids do, they will pick them off. They can also grow them out. They’ll be fine.

Gels are fine. Just buy a bottle of gel remover off Amazon and soak them off using a bit of cotton wool in tin foil around each finger once they are tatty. It's the picking off that damages the nails.

Make sure you go to a proper salon, not a 'nail bar' that uses electric files.
