For me I am finding myself checking the washing instructions and if it’s going to be too much of a palava then deciding to give it a miss.

Checking what fabric the garment is made from.

Just using one eyeshadow for my whole eye look.

Use an eyecream

BlameItOnTheGoose · 29/06/2023 17:18

Only wearing 100% cotton tops & jumpers

Wearing the same stud earrings every day all year long

I'm turning into my mother 👵🏻

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 29/06/2023 17:25

I can't think of any! My mum and I have very different styles.

I suppose we both love colourful shoes?

musixa · 29/06/2023 17:29

About the only thing we have in common is that we are both inveterate cardigan wearers.

Zipps · 29/06/2023 17:29

Never sunbathed

lizziebuck · 29/06/2023 17:31

Colour Co ordinate. I do mix colours but would NEVER mix two items of, say, floral, or two of different stripes. I wouldn't wear brown and black, or green and blue. I am definitely NOT stylish but there are rules that I always follow!

Gracewithoutend · 29/06/2023 17:34

Moisturise.

DelphiniumBlue · 29/06/2023 17:36

Make-up like my Granny. We shared a room on holiday when I was about 10 and it was a revelation how much difference a small amount of make-up could make to a 60 year old face. I remember seeing how much more lively and alert she looked after a little cream blusher, and brown eye and brow pencil .
She always wore Revlon, which is my go-to for nail polish now.

DelphiniumBlue · 29/06/2023 17:36

Oh yes, and keep your face out of the sun.

ScreenPrinting · 29/06/2023 17:37

Oh I do the checking the washing instructions too, just like my mum!

Apart from that I do NOTHING my mum does…! I love her but her style ideas caused me to be mercilessly bullied as a teenager… she made me keep my hair short until I was 11, then INSISTED on me brushing it constantly (my hair is curly/wavy and thick and goes unattractively bushy when brushed; I haven’t brushed it now for almost 30 years apart from when I want to make my daughter laugh at how funny it looks)… she advised against plucking eyebrows so I had caterpillar eyebrows until I finally realised her advice was rubbish in my early 20s… she advised hideous glasses when I was 11/12, before I wore contacts, her taste in glasses was just TERRIBLE and I looked ridiculous… she had no idea about dressing to suit different figures so I wore unflattering jeans until I had my own money to spend… I wore the ugliest school shoes because she chose ‘sensible’ shoes that she genuinely thought were also attractive… honestly the list is endless!

I make the most of myself now but I was early 20s before I even had the slightest idea what suited me and what was just hideous.

not planning on doing this to my own DD!!!

planthelpadvice · 29/06/2023 17:40

My mum often shops in outfits - it's why she doesn't really like M&S because they used to just put all the tops together, all the trousers etc. She likes to buy an outfit.

I don't do this really, mainly because of money, but she did instil in me the concept that what you buy needs to go with the other things you own. I can hear her saying "But what will you wear it with?" about some random item I was hoping to purchase 😂

FarTooHotForMe · 29/06/2023 17:41

Good skin care routine.

Care about appearance and wardrobe and make a big effort to look nice.

Blow dry my hair upside down for a bit to give it body.

ScreenPrinting · 29/06/2023 17:47

I’m envious of everyone who CAN take their mum/grandma’s style advice!

Forgot that my mum always insisted a good tan is healthy 😳 and got quite angry when I refused to go in the sun as a teen (I burn)

Oh and hair washing! I have very dry hair; hers is oily. But she insists that washing it every day is the only way… I think she thinks I’m filthy because I only wash it twice a week (Christ knows how dry it would be if I washed it more often)

Oh and skin… she was obsessed with ‘deep cleansing’ face masks when I was a spotty teenager… my face used to peel with dryness around and under my spots, thanks to all the constant Mud Packs she kept suggesting…

Higher maintenance:

  • being a fabric snob, and taking care of clothes (BFFs with my iron)
  • multistep daily skincare routine including sunscreen
  • regular, good haircuts

Lower maintenance:

  • don't own scales/have no idea what I weigh
  • rarely wear makeup other than lipstick
  • keep nails short and unpainted
  • never heat style hair

Now in my 30s, I'm also coming to agree that no shoes are pretty enough to sacrifice comfort!

Fizbosshoes · 29/06/2023 18:06

My mum was much more high maintenance than me. She wore make up every day, and styled her hair with products etc (she had very bouffant curly hair - I have long slightly wavy hair that I mostly just plait) she wore perfume every day and I don't think I remember her wearing flat shoes at all (apart from slippers indoors) until I was a late teen. She wore heels on the school run, to the park, going for a walk, in the snow 😳riding a bike etc. I wear heels for going out, or weddings and even then I normally have a pair of emergency flip flops handy
She never ever wore jeans - I think I would have barely any winter clothes if I threw out all my jeans!

thedevilinablackdress · 29/06/2023 18:08

Vests

Never being into fad diets (thanks Mum)

Fear of showing any leg at all (not so much thanks!)

sparkiesparkle · 29/06/2023 18:12

Red lipstick to brighten up my face instantly, dot some of it on to cheeks and blend in as blusher, quick slick of eyeliner and top coat only lashes. Looks glam and is quick

sparkiesparkle · 29/06/2023 18:13

My mother wore silk all the time. I don't, I walk and train dogs for most of the day, and also evenings. So I'm more practical

sparkiesparkle · 29/06/2023 18:14

My mother used to rub olive oil into her skin. She looked decades younger than her years. I really ought to do this

avocadotofu · 29/06/2023 18:17

Wearing Suncream, buying mostly natural fibres and spending more but buying less.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/06/2023 18:18

Buy less but nicer quality
