Expensive item of jewellery to sell

Hi all , as per title , the have an item of jewellery that no longer holds the sentiment in which it was given.
It's probably worth about 1600 to 1800 , all relative but that's a lot of money to me.
I've taken into local jewellery shops and they have confirmed it's worth but we're not not buying at moment.
I'm really want to get rid as it's upsetting seeing it.
Any thoughts on good places to sell ?

Did they advise how much they would buy it for? Unless it is something special, you'll probably get very little. I'd put it on EBay with a reserve price.

Selling jewellery usually means achieving a fraction of its so-called value. Jewellers are notorious for making very low offers.

Your best bet is to either sell it privately to another individual, or to sell at auction. If you sell at auction, you will pay roughly 25-30% of the end price to the auction house. So you will lose a third of what you sell it for.

What kind of jewellery is it?

There is a huge gap between insurance and replacement value and sale value unfortunately.

Unless it's by a famous designer or very unusual you'll be lucky to be offered more than scrap value for it. A private sale is your best bet but you won't get the full retail value for it.

Thank you for the advice, I was a bit unsure about eBay in case someone said it hadn't arrived etc etc
It's a diamond ring

As others have said, the item's value is very different to what the price you will achieve selling it.

I have a pair of diamond earrings insured for £30,000. When I made enquiries about selling them, was only offered a maximum of £7,000. Needless to say, I didn't sell them.

It's hard to sell jewellery privately unless you have contacts, so the only really options are through a dealer or at auction. With the latter, you can set a reserve price, so if it isn't realised, you don't have to sell.

As an aside, do you know the grade of the diamond? I ask because when I took my earrings to be appraised, a few places tried to tell me they were a lesser colour and clarity than they actually are.
