Hi all

I'm super keen to get a nose job this year - but beyond confused on how to choose a surgeon. My budget is up to 8k and I could travel anywhere in the UK. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm mostly interested in removing my dorsal hump.

Thanks so much!

I’m not very helpful but just wanted to wish you good luck! I hope you achieve your desired outcome 🖤

Only suggestion I have is to look at reviews on RealSelf. I had mine done years ago in my home country... I know it's a big deal.

How did you choose your surgeon? Apparently RealSelf is very unreliable.

Having had botched plastic surgery (not to my face though), there are no guarantees and I still believe I did everything right and it still went wrong. A few days things though - I’d go to a hospital rather than one of the clinics with loads of branches. You will at least have proper medical and nursing care in the immediate aftermath. I was quite unwell and really needed it. Secondly interview several surgeons - at least three - which unfortunately mounts up as many charge for the initial consult. Look for one that specialises in what you want done. Check them out on the appropriate specialist registers. I did all of the above though.

Don’t give any attention to review sites. Don’t consider anyone who won’t show you a portfolio of their work. Mine wouldn’t, claiming data protection - I’d consider that a massive red flag now. However, be aware that even if they do show you photos it will be of their best work. So also ask for photos when things didn’t go quite as the client expected and what they looked like after remediation. Ask what their policy is if you are unhappy with the result - both THEIR policy and the hospital policy. A surgeon might say they will do a do-over but you could still be left with hospital and anaesthesia fees if the hospital won’t cover these. Take them photos of what you want and ask them how feasible that is and their level of confidence in achieving it, or what compromises they suggest. Ask how many times they do the surgery you want and don’t be fobbed off with answers like ‘it’s the most commonly requested surgery I do’. Press for specifics. How many in the last 12 months along with satisfaction and complication rates.

This is your money and more importantly your face. A decent surgeon and person will respect that. If you’ve pissed them off with your questions because they have a god complex, move on. Good luck - it’s a minefield but there are decent surgeons out there.

Duncan Atherton is amazing. DM me if you have any specific questions.
