what would you recommend ( the budget is not limitless needs to be less than £10 for a decent size bottle prepapred to pay a bit more than standard tressemme etc ) needs to be available in standard shops or online
she likes to wash her hair daily, her hair is waist length
thanks

Dream lengths is good by loreal. If you are finding her hair is greasy quick, I recommend double shampooing and making sure conditioner is only on ends.

Gabby10 · 21/06/2023 09:39

Washing her hair daily is probably what's causing it to be oily, I use to wash mine everyday and it always seemed greasy/oily. I now wash it once or twice a week and it's a lot better. I just use to Alberto balsam normal shampoo and conditioner. If she's worried it looks oily maybe try and get her to pop it up in a bun for a couple of days or even dry shampoo it xx

Could you encourage her to wash less frequently over the summer holidays? This is what helped dc1's hair the most (also long, fine & oil prone). We spent last summer holiday going longer between washes, she now does every 3rd night & the condition of her hair & scalp is so much better. We use Treseme clarifying shampoo (black bottle with green writing, lasts ages even with 7 of us) with a small amount of the conditioner on the ends. Then she deep conditions with my Garnier banana hair food once a month (20ish minutes).

Summer break is ideal because it looks worse before it looks better!

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 21/06/2023 09:43

I have suggested washing it less but she dreads being teased for it being greasy ( i think it looks nice and healthy but she thinks shiny is a synonym for greasy!!!!)

As PP suggested the summer holidays is a great time to try leaving it between washes a bit longer. Dry shampoo will also help with taking the oily look off it, if she has brown hair though I would suggest buying the dry shampoo for brown hair. If light just normal dry shampoo or even talc (probably not the best but I've been known to use a few times when in a morning rush 😂)

Head and shoulders for dandruff.

The other shampoo I like (that she sometimes pinches) is This faith in nature one.

the green elvive is good - with clay - for oily roots and dry ends - and silicone free too

I have fine, thinning wavy hair and always thought I had to wash it daily - it took me a while to train it to go every other day but even on day 3 it's less greasy than it used to be on day 2 - so it really is worth her using the holidays to stretch to every other day. her ends must be crisps to be washed that often!

I bought DD the aveeno one linked upthread and found it both harsh and smelt of off apples (which I guess vinegar can be- smelt like when you used to find an apple smooshed at the bottom of the bag) so if she's in any way smell sensitive I wouldn't bother.

MoustacheTwirler · 21/06/2023 09:55

I have fine hair that gets greasy very quickly. My everyday shampoo and conditioner is Pantene pro-v repair and protect (the Pantene voluminising shampoo is also good for my hair but can dry it out with regular use) or Aussie volume shampoo. If the lengths are getting dry then I will put on a conditioning hair mask just on the ends so the roots don't get greasy. Dry shampoo between washes also helps.

If you wanted to splurge then Kiels rice and wheat volumising shampoo is the best.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 21/06/2023 09:58

the kiels is too expensive by far sorry

the schools finish here at end of next week so hopefully we can start to stretch the washing schedule

Really try to stretch out the washing. Learn to plait it, you can dry shampoo the roots.
Look at how your washing it, double shampoo, conditioner on on ends and give it a cold rinse with head over the bath. If she shower washes it she may just be washing the top part iyswim.

Faith in Nature shampoos and conditioners are excellent. Definitely worth a try. And so many flavours to choose from.

It smells lovely! You can buy it in bulk too if it does work for her.

foodtoorder · 21/06/2023 14:42

You need a clarifying shampoo and use conditioner on the ends maybe 2 or 3 times a week.
I have been using an Avon deeply purifying which has salycilic acid in it as I have washed my hair daily for atleast 20 years. After about 5-6 weeks I have managed to get to every other day wash.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 21/06/2023 18:13

THANKS all have ordered faith in nature and will see how we get on
