White lace dress discoloured

I've got a white lace dress which has yellowed in places

Such a shame as I love it and find it hard to find dresses that suit me, plus it wasn't cheap

Is there any way I can treat it to get it white again?

What’s it made of? Usually washing it with white powder (not liquid!) will sort this out, because it contains bleaching agents. But it might be trickier if it’s synthetic rather than natural fibres.

Alternatively, ask a dry cleaner if they can fix it.

I've used Ace for whites on lots of things fairly successfully but not sure how the delicates hold up to it... very effective though.

Thank you! I'll see if the dry cleaner can help

Sometimes leaving it out in the sun can help

i second Ace for whites, and hanging out on a sunny day to dry. I did this with a white tee which had discoloured under the arms and it looked brand new after a trip though the machine !

If you can't get it white again, you could dye it.

I'm not sure if it still exists, but when DD1 was a flowergirl for a friend of mine her all (mostly) white dress had juice and gravy spilled down it,

I took it to a drycleaner who couldn't do a thing with it, and they weren't sure exactly what it was made from ( it was a dress specially made for DD). They suggested I tried DAZ, so I did!

I washed it with the DAZ, on the delicates cycle and it came up absolutely spotless, no stains, no marks, no nothing, as good as new.

It was brilliant!

Glo White has been around for years.

Nancy Birtwhistle from GBBO advocates green cleaning methods. Her solution for stained whites is
Half a cup of citric acid
Half a cup of table salt
Dissolve in 600ml of hot water.

Soak stained garment for 20 minutes and then drip dry in sunshine. You might want to wash it normally afterwards to remove any residue (it can make the fabric feel a bit "crispy"). It works better on natural fibres. For synthetic fibres I would leave the solution to cool before adding the garment.

Citric acid is a weak acid - I've bought it from Ocado and Amazon.
