Please find me shoes for my terrible feet!

I have wide feet with bunions and I live in trainers or Doc Martin boots. I also have some Birkenstock style sandals for when it's really hot (because all of these accommodate by minging feet).

I need some flat and comfy nice shoes to wear with dresses for 2 barmitzvas I am going to this summer. I will probably be wearing a black dress- possibly a red one but not decided yet.

I have some lovely shoes with block heels but they kill my feet after about 10 mins of dancing.

I like the attached style but I have tried on several pairs like this and even the wide ones don't fit my clodhoppers!

Can anyone help please.

Have a look at this website. It is American but many of the shoes can be found here. I think it is a blog so it gets updated all the time. They list shoes by condition and style.

https://www.barkingdogshoes.com/

Thank you- will have a browse.

New look do a pair almost exactly like your pic. I was going to suggest them even before I’d seen your pic as the material is so soft and the shape covers up enough but has a gap in the right place so are comfortable for bunions. They’re shiny so can be used for dress up or down, I love them

Good idea- I have had wide fitting shoes from there before and they usually are comfy. Will check it out

The first rule for comfortable shoes is making sure they have an ankle strap. If you wear slip ons your toes scrunch (it could be a lot or a bit, shoe dependant) to keep the shoes on and to walk normally. The ankle strap gives you more freedom of movement.

Secondly, the part over the toes, I've noticed a lot of styles this year in Australia (might be the same in the UK) see a bit lower down and really uncomfortable for me around the toes. Out of all the shoes I tried on at a recent shopping trip (given that I ONLY tried on those with an ankle strap the majority were horrible around the toes. That would likely be similar for you with a bunion.

Honestly? Don't even TRY to buy online.

I’ve heard good things about bunions and Vivaia. I don’t have bunions (I have different foot issues), so I can’t vouch for them myself, but they might be worth a browse in case they have something you like - or, at least, something reasonably comfortable.

Thank you

New Look do an “extra wide” fitting. Can’t go too wrong for £25.

Like the first ones - the second ones wouldn't encase my lovely bunions. Thank you

I'm no help regarding shoes cause I seem to live in runners or fitflops now but have you considered surgery on the bunions? I inherited my mothers monster feet and have had surgery on both feet (same time for both), recovery took about eight weeks in total but in reality I was completely mobile after six. I did have to have it repeated on one foot but that's rare and really down to me having arthritis in it, its pinned now and should be fine for ever. I'm so glad I had them done, the pain they caused was awful, now I've no pain at all and they look so much better, not perfect by any means but a lot better.

I did consider it years and years ago then decided against it as they don't give me pain- just give me hassle with shoes. Usually it's not such a problem as I live in trainers and have loads of really comfy fashionable ones.

Have you tried Clark's wide fitting styles?

groovergirl · 20/06/2023 05:28

OP, you might like the Australian shoemakers Django and Juliette . They do fashionable heels, boots, sandals and brogues in beautiful leathers and colours. I'm a repeat customer, as their designs are slightly wider, which suit my C-D width feet with a slight bunion on the left. Their insoles are deliberately plain so that you can customise them with pads to suit your feet.
I'm very picky about shoes, as I walk and dance a lot, so I hear you, sole sister!

Have you tried Gabor @Bigminnie1?
I fit shoes as a job 😊 lots of our ladies who struggle with dressier options die to bunions end up in a Gabor. You want a Gabor “comfort” which is a wider fitting. Everything on the page I’ve linked should be the correct fit.
They use a very soft leather that will give as you wear it 😊 The absolute worst thing you can do when dealing with bunions etc is fall into the trap of buying cheap, low quality shoes because you “won’t wear them much”. If you can, invest in a decent quality pair that use a good leather and you’ll have them for years to come! Go for a nice metallic or nude that can be worn with most things 😊

Yes- they aren't great for bunions - the styles I liked and didn't like a lot of them. Thanks

@Bigminnie1 Definitely not!! I would say it’s probably the brand that I sell to the widest age range 😊 genuinely 16ish-90ish 😊 they do some really great chunky trainers and boots too!
John Lewis usually have a decent selection of Gabor out on display if you have one near you 😊

Whatever you end up getting, wear them in the house for an hour or so at a time with a pair of thicker socks on to break them in. If they’re decent leather and you’re still struggling a bit just where your bunions are, pinpoint where they sit in the shoe, warm the leather up a little with a hairdryer and then gently push pressure on that area from the inside of the shoe (the end of a wooden broom handle works well!😅). It’ll give you a few mm extra space for the bunions without stretching out the whole shoe 😊

I have very wide feet with high steps. Aside from Asics I wear Fitflops, ECCO and Birkenstocks. Fitflops have some really nice wedge sandals now that can definitely look dressy and are extremely comfortable.

There's an Italian brand called Nero Giardiani that are quite wide fitting and very strong/supportive that do a wide range of proper shoes (boots, shoes, sandals runners etc) so I'd recommend checking them out.

I read recently that ladies just change into flipflops or white runners by the time they go dancing at weddings. I'd seen the flip flops plenty of times but hadn't seen the white runners before.

I was at a party at the weekend and wore a maxi dress and gold Arizona Birkenstocks and I danced the night away quite happily. Other women were in their bare feet and some had brought runners to change into.

Yes I've done that before. Wore some Ganni sandals that I loved and went with my outfit, but were painful. So I took my pink superga for dancing!

Wintry57 · 20/06/2023 14:40

I’ve found my people! Gabor and Ecco here too. @Doggydarling was it nhs or private survey? Inherited awful bunions here too and one of them is really painful.

You could wear floral print gola etc trainers? I had they’re the new white trainer

Dinopawus · 20/06/2023 17:36

I've just bought some Anna Field Shoes from a company called Zalando. Circa £30.

Have also looked at Sole Bliss and Cala but neither in my budget.

Dinopawus · 20/06/2023 17:39

Aesthetically, I disagree with the post suggesting an ankle strap, but appreciate the need for comfort.

Ankle straps appear to cut the foot to knee length in half and make your legs look wider and shorter. Lowish heels without a strap will look more elegant than high heels with one.

LIZS · 20/06/2023 17:42

Shuropody?

Bigminnie1 · 20/06/2023 20:07

Thanks so much everyone- I have ordered a large selection to try on!
