Chin hairs

Dotty93 · 19/06/2023 13:58

I've seen quite a few of these threads on chin hairs!f
For years I have had the regular thick dark chin hairs on the one side of my chin.
I recently turned 30 and in the last month they have got worse, I now have lots on the other side and starting to grow on my neck! Talking over 30!!

I have had a hormone blood test and everything is normal.

Is there any advice anyone can give, change in diet? Best hair facial remover? I've heard of the Phillips Lumea, there's a few.

I'm plucking at the moment and whizzing over every day with the finishing touch facial trimmer.
Can this make it worse?

Has anyone managed to calm down the growth? I'm so worried that I'm going to get much more, I have loads already:(

Mine is getting worse. Assuming it's hormonal. I had electrolysis years ago and have started again a year ago. I can get away with only going every couple of months. I doubt anything addresses the core issue, does it?

SnowyMouse · 19/06/2023 17:21

I wet shave every day or two.

Topictwenty · 19/06/2023 17:41

I think this is just how it is for women unless there’s a medical cause which in your case it seems there isn’t. Electrolysis helps though!

persisted · 19/06/2023 18:12

I have electrolysis every 6 weeks. It doesn't stop new ones growing but it kills them off so they don't accumulate.
in between times I trim them.

KillingMeDeftly · 19/06/2023 18:30

Lumea worked wonders for me! The worst bit was when you could feel the hair about to break through but it wasn’t long enough to pluck. Bastards!

emmylousings · 19/06/2023 18:33

Had this since my early 20s. IME, electrolysis works, and permanently, but you have to be prepared to allow a bit of growth for the therapist to get at. You need to go regularly (weekly, fortnightly, monthly) but this reduces over time. It's a slow, but real solution. Never tried Lumea. I do not recommend shaving, it will make the hairs stronger. Good luck.

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/06/2023 18:34

How many are there? If you can manage it with 5 mins per day of tweezing then I'd carry on with that. Don't shave! If you opt for waxing, threading or sugaring then you have to let them grow - which no one wants with facial hair.

keyboardkat · 19/06/2023 18:40

I dry shave every morning. Just whizz a good (five blade men's) razor over the offending bits and good to go. Every morning, it's routine just like putting cream on my face.

Tweezing is too time consuming and I always miss some. Electrolysis takes far too much of my time ( tried it, and gave up). Dry shaving gets the lot of the little horrors.

I don't worry about the hairs growing back stronger, have no idea if they do in fact, because they never get a chance to grow!

Dotty93 · 19/06/2023 19:43

I have started using the trimmer in the last 2 months, I wonder if this has made them worse. Think I will just try and use the tweezers, until I get something else and see how that is instead of the trimmer.

At the moment I am really self concious, so letting the hair grow for electrolysis would be difficult. I'm too embarrassed to tell my Fiance 😞

I'm hoping if I cut out sugar from my diet, that it may help, it's not fair the things us women go through!

@LindorDoubleChoc just counted over 40 little black spots on my chin, they are brewing to poke out ready to pluck/trim in the morning. I will have time to pluck.

If I could pick, I would choose to have the thick black hair around my nipples and none on my chin!!

When I'm talking to women, I find my self looking at the chin to see if I can see raised bumps or hairs 😂 but I never see any!

Thank you everyone, just wish there was a simple solution

Lumea. Honestly, it will change your life.

ThisHeatIsKillingMeOff · 19/06/2023 19:48

I'm 31 and have this problem. I wax mine :)

newtb · 19/06/2023 19:58

I'm quite overweight and post menopause. If I weigh 15kg less I don't have them anymore.

Itsybitsytitsy · 19/06/2023 20:00

Lumea works for me. Pale skin and wiry black hairs on my upper lip, corner of my mouth and chin. It seems to be working really well. It does not seem to be affecting the paler blondish peach fuzz . I really am surprised how well it is working. I bought it for my legs. It's also got rid of nipple hair in one session it seems.
I bought the cheapest one that was on offer. It was not one recommended for the face.
I could search for a hair on my face in the evening, not find one then at work there be one or two about an inch long and stuck out 90 degrees 😏

I would not advise plucking. I dud this and it just made things worse. I go to Skn clinic for laser treatment. It makes a massive difference. I had loads of facial hair

Lancastri · 19/06/2023 20:06

Those of you suggesting Lumea, do you not have to shave it first? That worries me!

Itsybitsytitsy · 19/06/2023 20:11

@Lancastri
Lumea says to shave but I don't usually. Occasionally I will use my epilator first but not always

Lancastri · 19/06/2023 20:13

@Itsybitsytitsy oh that’s good to know! IPL has been brilliant on my legs and arms which I was happy to shave (weirdly not worked on my armpits) but I haven’t tried it on my upper lip and chin.

What are you worried about, what do you think will happen if you shave?

WeightInLine · 19/06/2023 20:36

i’ve never shaved my face. You can cut them short with a pair of scissors

Lancastri · 19/06/2023 20:38

@Topictwenty stubble!

CreationNat1on · 19/06/2023 20:53

Lumea is worth it.

Apparently too much sugar is a trigger..... Too many carbs. Not easy to cut down, some people are just prone to hairs.

TizerorFizz · 19/06/2023 22:02

Laser treatment at a clinic. You will need to keep going but it works.

Dotty93 · 19/06/2023 22:44

Oh no so plucking can make it worse too?

OP posts:
TizerorFizz · 19/06/2023 22:53

I would not pluck. Get a laser appointment. It works on pigmented hair. Electrolysis would work too. The sooner you start the better.

Dotty93 · 20/06/2023 06:49

Thank you,
I was just wondering, what Phillips Lumea has worked best? Because there's a few different ones
