What to wear, New School Parents Day

Hi, we are moving back to the UK from Spain. Our kids are going to a private school and we have a day at the end of June where we meet the current parents, the teachers and all the staff. I am out of touch with what we should all wear. We have a girl 8 and a boy 10. I'm looking for suggestions for myself also
Any suggestions please. Thank you

Be clean and tidy but you don’t have to be dressed up. You might be getting a tour so comfy shoes

BangingOn · 19/06/2023 13:27

I agree, no need to be anything other than clean and tidy with shoes you can walk in. Our prep school has a huge range of styles at any event, ranging from the permanently horsey, to those coming/going to a formal office.

The children will be expected to wear their current uniform. Parents turn up in everything from tracksuit and baseball cap to three piece suit.

I posed a similar question recently! You're obviously an overthinker like me, I wore skinny jeans, a cream knitted vest top and tan sandals. I felt smart, casual and comfortable

Applesandpears01 · 19/06/2023 20:55

Clearly a ball gown?!

This reminds me of the post that was mysterious and turned out to be a vicar's wife going to meet the new parishioners.

@Cinka Welcome back.

I remember doing open days, assessment days and offer holder days! My pearls of wisdom: a casual dress that’s classy. Cotton if it’s a hot day. Espadrilles will be fine if you have a comfortable pair. If you don’t fancy a dress, a well cut shirt and trousers. A decent bag and under stated jewellery. Be yourself. The most wealthy always have clothes in the best and most appropriate fabrics. Simple but chic.

Thank you. I didn't realise they're expected to wear their current uniform, I will check with the school. Thanks!

@TizerorFizz Dc are not expected to wear uniform at many school events like this. At entry exams and interview, yes. Mine didn’t for this type of event. They just wore comfortable casual clothes. Do check with the school. I imagine other new Dc and parents are going as well. No one is judging you.

I’d want to dress nicely for this too. Sue me.

What are you on about?

Cyclingmummy1 · 20/06/2023 16:18

If your children are spending the day with their new classes, which is how I read your original message, I'd expect them to wear uniform.

Penguinsmum · 20/06/2023 20:10

My dh wore jeans and shirt and fancy trainers I wore a nice blouse and jeans with loafers. So looked simple but smart. There were parents there in all kinds of different outfits.

I wouldn’t expect the children to wear uniform (I teach in a private school). Check this. Parents wear all sorts - lots come straight from work.
