I've been using cerave face wash and it has started hurting my face! What can I use instead?

Have you tried oil cleansing? You can use any oil and mix oils together - if you used jojoba oil as a carrier and mixed in aloe vera you may find that helps your skin stay calm?

No I haven't where do I start? Can I just try with olive oil from the kitchen?

Yes, olive oil is fine.

Just put a bit of oil in your hands, rub over your face, gently massage in, and then get a flannel or something similar, soak in warm water, wring out, and use that to wipe all the oil off your face.

Dead simple, really good for your skin.

Thank you!

Cerave didn't suit me either.

Look at Sukin sensitive face lotion cleanser (the cream one not the gel)

Geo42 · 17/06/2023 21:22

Glycerin soap does the trick for me. Waitrose stock it but I am sure there are other stockists.

Carnivore · 17/06/2023 21:27

I use hydrogen peroxide. It has no additives yet kills germs. I apply with a wash cloth.

ceepeeree · 17/06/2023 21:28

I was coming on to say oil cleansing too. I get sebbhoraic eczema sometimes, and since I started oil cleansing it's completely gone.

I use jojoba oil-you can buy it lots of places.
Good luck!

Oil cleansing sorted my acne-prone skin and blocked pores. I don't actually do it anymore because I ran out of oil and got somehow distracted 😂 But I keep meaning to go back to it.

You also don't need to do it twice a day - just in the evening before bed and then a quick splash of water in the morning.

I use this along with an ceramide elf one but this Beauty Bay one in particular is so gentle (and cheap!), possibly not great if you wear very heavy makeup but a double cleanse us ing a flannel would help that. My two young dc use it a couple of times a week on their faces with no problems.

Marine59 · 17/06/2023 21:36

Be careful with oils, this method ruined my skin even though I wanted it so much to work!

Did you move house recently? I noticed when I moved to the UK my skin became so much better because the water is not so hard. Sometimes you think it is the cleanser that's no longer working, in fact it's something else.

WhereAreWeNow · 17/06/2023 21:49

Oil cleansing. Body Shop camomile is a good starting point.

anon2022anon · 18/06/2023 08:09

The Neutrogena hydro boost range works well for me. Cerave is too harsh (rosacea prone skin). I use the foaming wash for make up removal, the gelee milk if my skin feels like it needs something really gentle/ soothing, and the water gel moisturiser doesn't clog up my skin, it's not too thick on like lots.

I also really like the ordinary squalene cleanser, it's really good at moisturising, but it makes my skin a bit too greasy to use for every wash.

Oldraver · 18/06/2023 09:33

I have very reactive eczema skin. I never used to cleanse because anything I ever used felt like paint stripper

Until I found Badger Balm. I use their Rose oil cleanser and I've never reacted

Yes that is it roacea prone skin. It used to be fine! But now it's like as soon as I put it on my skin it stings!

I would recommend either the Green people organic cleansers or the Trevano rose one is divine but very expensive! There's so much chemical crap in most face cleansers/washes. I never wash my face with water either as the hard water here is so drying and does me no favours. I just wipe with cleanser and then moisturise (also with a Green people moisturiser). I occasionally in winter use a few drops of argan oil rather than moisturiser which is great for dry skin - but I have to be careful not to use it too much or it gives me spots.

jeaux90 · 18/06/2023 13:53

The balance me frankincense cleanser works very well for me, very sensitive skin. You can buy it in Waitrose often has an offer on.

Itstoday · 18/06/2023 14:41

I can’t even use a face flannel now as my skin feels so sensitive. I recently bought Aloe cleaner from The Body Shop and it’s lovely.

riotlady · 18/06/2023 15:25

When my skin is having an extra sensitive flare-up, I use Lush Ultra Bland for cleaning and Weleda Almond Oil for moisturiser and nothing else, is really soothing and settles it down within a week or so

hattyhathat · 18/06/2023 15:29

Thank you all! I'd used Lush Ultrabland before but struggle to get to a lush I might order online. Thanks for all the suggestions most appreciated

Just stick to olive oil. It is better than anything else.

StarryNightAddict · 19/06/2023 04:35

Not sure if it’s in the UK sorry, but I’m loving the Korres Greek yoghurt cleanser. I have sensitive skin and swear I have tried every cleanser on the market and I love this one.

Angelpandas1 · 19/06/2023 04:38

Time to wash away the Cera-woes! Try a gentle alternative like unicorn tears or mermaid bubbles. Just kidding! Maybe a dermatologist can help you find a face wash that won't leave you feeling like a fire-breathing dragon.
