Finally stopped biting my nails

Finally stopped biting my nails aged 36. Have bitten them my whole life, my dad says since I was tiny. Feeling very proud of myself.

It's now been 8 weeks and I've not bitten them. I've been using OPI nail envy and OPI cuticle and my nails are relatively strong.

However the pink bits (nail bed?) are quite short and the white bits really long. Will this improve after time and more of the nail bed re-attach rather than being free edge of the nail as I don't bite them?

Can someone recommend a brand of nail polish that is sheer, almost just a hint of colour where you can see the nail underneath? My nails are too short and stubby bright colours yet

Thanks

Ah that’s great well done! I’m also an ex nail biter so I understand how hard that will have been for you.
The proportions of your nails beds/tips will improve very very slowly so don’t expect instant improvements but you will get there. You will notice them a lot more than other will though so don’t worry about that!
The product you are describing is Dior Nail Glow, but I’ve heard there are cheaper dupes. Others might offer more advice on that. I thought it was fine but not wow.

Re colours, I would say that dark colours look best on short, fingertip length nails so don’t rule it out. I’m sure I read somewhere that the trend is moving away from longer almond shape nails to shorter and squarer too.
Sorry this is turning into an essay, but if you type on a keyboard loads some of your nails could get damaged by that, for me it’s my ring finger, and if it’s too long the mail bed starts to lift a bit from the recurring tapping. For that reason I keep that nail at finger tip length.

As someone who has managed to stop nail biting for a decent amount of time, several times - well done!! Your nailbeds will lengthen over time for sure so don't worry about that.

I also use nail envy. You can get coloured versions of it. The bubble bath shade is nice and very neutral when they are still shortish.

I like the opi pro spa hand cream and cuticle oil. They do a to-go one with a brush. It's small so easy to keep in your bag and lasts a surprising length of time. I'm a finger picker too so this helps me a lot.

Oh also, this time I'm cutting my nails regularly with scissors and then filing them round. This helps to ensure the nail edge is thicker and less likely to break. It's made a big difference for me.

Thank you for the recommendation of the dior nail glow. I bought the nails inc dupe and my nails look lovely, the white bit isn't as obvious now

Thanks, I'll try cutting and filing as when they are bare they are really weak. It seems the strength comes from the layers of OPI

Used to bite mine mega far down. Been a couple of yours (with the odd nibble here and there) and mine have re-attached 😄 nail techs comment what a lovely shape they are- they used to be tiny sore stumps!

Just popping on to say well done, OP! I finally stopped biting a few years ago
( I’m 48!) and it’s an achievement. I just put clear polish on mine as I tend to chip anything else.

Main thing I'd say is don't be tempted to scrape underneath them as that pushes the bed down again.

They look lovely ☺️
