Shorts for running and walking

I'm doing a 20 mile walk with colleagues and would like to wear shorts. As I'm not exactly perfectly toned, I'd like some which are mid thigh and can also be used for running. Am I looking for the holy grail?

What style of shorts are you after OP? Tight/loose/double layered/plain/colourful/patterned?

I'd go for a double layer style if you want to use them for running.
That will stop any chaffing, be more comfortable i.e no bunching of fabric.
You really need to try many pairs to find which ones work for you.

I have ones similar to this with the lycra inner bit to stop chaffing when very hot.

I have men's shorts for running, as women's ones tend to be short, or ride up between your legs as you run, or involve cycling shorts. I find the double layer ones either still ride up or are uncomfortably tight. Also the pockets are better in men's shorts

I spent a lot of money on different shorts only to discover half way through a run that they didnt work for me.

However, my man shorts don't really belong in Style and Beauty, as they are neither! But for exercise my aim is to be comfortable above all else!

For plain colours, lululemon is comfortable and have different lengths. On the other end, rainbows & sprinkles have fun prints.

You must have small hips relative to your waist (more straight than curvy) as they just don't fit me well.

If they fit round the waist they'll be too small over my hips. To fit nicely on my hips they are too large on the waist and leg.

But I don't have a problem with women's shorts so it's more that sometimes the men's colours and styles are nicer.

I just got some double layered shorts from h&m which were very comfy on my run. My absolute favourite running ones though are karrimor (sports direct) ones that look like cycling shorts. They fit nicely over my tummy and they have a little pocket for my phone.

The shorts I have have an adjustable waist, like an inner tie that you can pull and knot to make them tighter on the waist, which i have to do or theyre too loose.

But you are probably right that my figure more straight up and down too.
